Re: Jazztalk is the greatest website in history!!!
Re: And the site, she is dead.
my Facebook experience has been very valuable to me. I do not have "friends" there who I don't know or that another real friend of mine doesn't know. most of my FB "friends" are jazz friends but they, of course, talk about all sorts of subjects. this is a bizarre example of FB's importance but recently I found out that a friend of mine for decades had passed at a young age 3,000 miles away. I would have eventually found out but the timing was important to me. I totally agree with Steve that your experience of course depends on what friends you communicate with. I don't even know how many friends I have on FB - probably a few hundred or more. I know I have a long list of requests I have not replied to or said "not now" or whatever the choice is aside from confirming the request. I also do not subscribe to any Apps which i think is a risky business. we have so little privacy left as it is.

I'm not sure what you mean by that comment. Would you explain, please?
If you mean that Steve Lake has not posted in a while, that's understandable. He relies on us to inquire of him and the label as to what we're interested in or having updated. That's why the forum is titled Ask ECM Records.

Oh, I wasn't suggesting that, Scott.

So, as of now, does it look like it's the last month for this site?

For the curious, what's an approximate breakdown of the costs associated with this site?

If you (or Ron) can put in a donations doohickey, you might get an influx of coin from the NPR types who visit this site.

Don't forget us geezers who will give our credit card and social security numbers to anyone who calls and warns us that something terrible will happen if we don't.

I kind of like walto's idea. Just PM him threateningly until he wets himself and pays for everything.

Shit, I don't have a pot to piss in, but I pay $200 a year on underage inter-species hookers (just to talk) and I consider that a bargain.
I hope that helps.

Sounds like Walto and Steve(thelil) have the $$ issue under control.
Since one is a state worker and the other is a retired state worker, I am very happy to know that tax dollars will be put to good use.

Scott Dolan wrote:I always figured if every "regular" poster (skip the obvious comment, Monte. You're better than that) donated a dollar every month, I'd end up making money. Which is exactly what I didn't want to do.
But, having really considered it recently, it could be a decent enough model since it would pay for hosting. I would also contribute a dollar each month, and what was left over could go to Justin for his services, which would cost four figures were he doing it for anyone else.
I will not donate a dollar every month!
I'll donate $12 a year, in advance.
When y'all have time, I hope you'll look into the logistics of donations---for example, PayPal doesn't charge a percentage if the payer uses the option "Send money to a relative or friend," though I don't know how long y'all could get away with that. Maybe you could see how O, AAJ, etc. have their donation systems set up.
Re: And the site, she is dead.
I figured I'd just give them my SSN and credit card numbers. That seems to work ok for me everywhere else on the internet.

Agreed. I know I've had a lot of success using Walto's SSN and credit card numbers everywhere on the internet.
Re: And the site, she is dead.
You should probably let me update those for you--I got a couple of new cards. Not sure why, but the companies keep worrying that something's wrong with the numbers I already had for some reason. It's really weird! I think my SSN is the same, though.
BTW, I'm getting excited about my jazztalk holdings health insurance!! They said I won't even have to get any paperwork! Sweet!

Re: And the site, she is dead.
So when I checked in yesterday and today I was being directed to some other funky domain page (was I the only one?). I thought the plug had officially been pulled. Now she's up, cool! Got me to thinking though, if the decision's made to let it go, will anything be said/announced? Just curious.

I am glad she's resurrected. Is Rollie still fucking around here? This has some nice accordion cuts
