He wasn't diagnosed with ALS until the end of 1977, after a rather extensive tour.

I know when he was diagnosed with it. You can have it for a couple years before it becomes noticeable enough to go see a doctor. It also can explain why he died so soon after being diagnosed. I don't think he even lived half the average from diagnosis.

Blue Train, of course Mingus could have already had ALS in 1975. It's pure conjecture though, isn't it?

Which is why I said he "might have already had it" in 1975. ;)

Here's a video of one of my favorite jazz trios, dedicated to my pal, Sand (aka Helge Sandvik). Hope you're well. I miss you.

Scott, this might be right up your alley, too. :music:

What albums of their's do you recommend to newbs? I've GOT to get some of their material!

I was pretty confident that you'd dig Enrico.

Here's a short list, but I can provide more recommendations, too.

The Night Gone By (my 1st one, and a monster)
Alone Together - (quartet w/Philip Catherine)
The Enrico Pieranunzi Trio Plays the Music of Wayne Shorter: Infant Eyes
Enrico Pieranunzi - Live at the Village Vanguard

Note - There is a ton of Pieranunzi on Spotify, too.

Why haven't I been reading this thread, and how did I miss this show? :? (Oops! By not reading JT. Image)

The group shown in the video clip posted in #32: Unfold Ordinary Mind

Live at Windup Space, Baltimore, Maryland, December 8, 2012 . . .

Unfold Ordinary Mind is:
Ben Goldberg - contra alto clarinet
Nels Cline - guitar
Ellery Eskelin, Rob Sudduth - tenors saxophone
Ches Smith - drums
The performance shown (of Goldberg's tune "Parallelogram") ultimately isn't very "avant," but it sure is enjoyable!

Thank you, pig pen!

This is a wonderful clip from one of my all-time favorite documentaries, Calle 54.

And now, one of my favorite people who ever walked on this planet and made music ... Jim Pepper. He's in excellent company, as you'll soon hear.

Here's a wonderful clip celebrating one of my greatest heroes, Gerald Wilson, and the making of Legacy. It also shows the family musical lineage thru a son and grandson.

And, a clip on the making of Detroit.

I just found this wonderful Gerald Wilson Orchestra clip from a 1960s Los Angeles television show, Frankly Jazz. What a gas!

You're welcome. I have found that a lot of people who don't generally like "avant" music can find something in this group to enjoy. Even my wife who hates my "squeaky" music doesn't mind this group.

I thought the music was quite interesting and cool, but the visual performance shown in the video was kind of stiff.

There maybe visually more satisfying performances of Brigitte. Nevertheless who would have thought that Ollie is posting here again. And apparently he is gone French a bit now

Ollie's gone so French that we should now refer to him as Ollièr, s'il vous plait.
