Thanks for posting, Ron!
First time they've programmed such a long series in advance. It goes all the way until next June.
I already have tix for Wayne Shorter in March!

So, how was the show at Yoshi's, Brooks?
If you want to do a review, we have a place for that, too.

Great show (how could it NOT be?).
Everyone got a chance to solo, and since they're all masters - never a dull moment. Weiss is a good MC for the group, too. Introduced "Croquet Ballet" as their "hit". Asked how many in the audience knew the tune, and if more than 10 responded, that determined it.
Bobby Hutcherson was there. Sadly looking quite frail, but it was nice that he was able to get out and see these guys. I'm sure he knows them all. Someone on FB said that Sheila E was there, too, but I didn't see her.

Bassist Don Prell leads a band the first Friday of every month at Bird & Beckett. I just discovered his great playing on a Claude Williamson trio side from the '50s. He went on to be bassist with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra.

VOLCÁN feat. Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Horacio El Negro Hernandez,
Giovanni Hidalgo, Armando Gola
An all-star Latin jazz quartet
Friday-Sunday, Nov 28-30
All shows: Tier 1 $40, Tier 2 $35, Tier 3 $30
Friday-Saturday, Nov 28-29 | 8pm & 10pm
Sunday, Nov 30 | 2pm & 7pm
Volcan, an all-star group featuring the prodigious talents of Jose Armando Gola, Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez, Giovanni Hidalgo and Gonzalo Rubalcaba, is the product of years of friendship, respect and a diverse and rich musical heritage. With over 150 albums between them as leaders and side-men, these highly revered musicians have joined forces to our delight.
Why Volcan? The volcano incorporates the four elements of nature, Earth, Air, Wind and Fire. Looming large and at times ominously over otherwise unremarkable landscapes, the volcano reminds us of the goals we aspire to, the ensuing journey and the value of the climb to the summit.

David Haskell Group | Jupiter - Berkeley, Sat. Aug. 30th
My friend, guitarist David Haskell and his group are playing at Jupiter in Berkeley tonight at 8pm. David is a superb guitarist/composer who I met when he was in the late Jim Pepper's band, Muktuk in the 80s. We lost contact with one another for a couple of decades but have since re-connected, to my great pleasure.

Re: Jazz in the San Francisco Bay Area
I already have tix for the Dec 13 early show and this on Dec 10:
'A Love Supreme' Symposium
Jazz author Ashley Kahn, saxophonist Ravi Coltrane and special guests will gather to discuss the development, impact and influence of Coltrane’s masterwork on the music world, the jazz scene in the Bay Area, and its role as one of the definitive artistic statements of the 20th century.
Should probably pick up one more show, too. Going to be a great week!
