Re: Cameras & Photography
Very nice, Ron.
I'm sure Hawaii is a fabulous place for photography.

Thanks, Brooks. Yes, Hawaii is a paradise in many ways, including one for photography.

Very nice, Coda. I especially like the evocative images of the Charles River, Cape Cod and Newton.

all my old stomping grounds, including my birthplace of Brighton! wonderful pictures, Coda, even if they weren't nostalgic for me.
and, Ron, my heart swells thinking about you and Patti enjoying your vacation/anniversary in that environment. here's to many more in the places of your choice.

Re: Cameras & Photography
Please pardon my indulgence.
I captured a very lovely image of my wife on the occasion of our 49th anniversary dinner recently on Kaua'i, and want to share it with you. The lei I bought for her is an amazing piece of work, the result of painstakingly weaving hundreds of individual orchid petals into this gorgeous and fragrant lei. Patti is even more complex and beautiful.

Re: Cameras & Photography
Thanks again, Valerie.
Here are a few photos I took yesterday on our return trip from lunch in Palmer, Alaska, 5o miles north of us.
It was, to state the obvious, a very monochromatic day. No, these are not black & white photos, though I may process them as such later. As you can see, winter is not over in the Chugach Mountains quite yet. It appeared to be snowing near the peaks, while it was approaching 50° where we were below.

Nice, Ron!
I especially like the first one. On first glance, I thought it was a B&W photo, but then realized that the lower 1/3 is a really nice muted brown. Very dramatic.

Thanks, Brooks.
As I said in my post, it was a very monochromatic day, so the conditions were very much like B&W. I thought about converting one or more of these images to black & white, but liked the subtle contrast of brown tones you mentioned so left them "as is". Much of that brown will soon be green.

I'm not normally a "flower guy", but I was in Golden Gate Park last week and wanted to try something different.

Re: Cameras & Photography
Nice, Brooks. Those are some unusual, very exotic-looking flowers. That's a most unique, huge Iris at the top. I would have gone nuts with my 55mm macro lens in that park!
You could leave me with my camera for an hour or so anytime I'm around water lilies such as these.

Yesterday, Patti & I decided to take a 35 mile drive to beautiful Girdwood, Alaska for lunch. It was gloriously sunny and an unseasonably warm 72°, an open sunroof day. Here are a couple of shots taken after lunch.

Patti & I were driving near Anchorage International Airport recently, so I seized an opportunity to capture the takeoff of a Cathay Pacific 747 cargo jet with the Chugach Mountain Range in the background. Our airport is a global hub for cargo, including FedEx, UPS & DHL.

Thanks, Coda. Sometimes we pinch ourselves to remind us of the panoramic beauty of our surroundings.
Lovely shots of your Arboretum under very interesting skies.

Thanks, Brooks.
I hope to capture some early spring budding trees and shrubs before it's too late. Stay tuned.

Here is an unlikely trio of photographs, all taken within about a :15 min. period near Anchorage International Airport last week.
