One of my all time favorites was the ageless cornerback for the Redskins, Darrell Green. He was the fastest man in the NFL throughout his entire career, which ended at the astonishing age of 41. (!)

He once ran a 4.09 40. Matter of fact, on his 50th birthday he ran a 4.43 40. Let those numbers sink in for a second. There are wide receivers and cornerbacks in the NFL now who could only dream of running a 4.43.

That really is incredible!

You obviously never saw Bo Jackson or Joey Gathright play. Not saying Puig is slow, but I have serious doubts he's as fast as either of them. (in their primes, of course)

I've seen both. I wasn't saying Puig was actually faster, I was just saying he appeared to be running as fast as I've ever seen when he went into higher gear after rounding second on that play. And it is possible (maybe) that the adrenaline of the moment did make him as fast as anyone???(for maybe 10 yards, anyway!)

This scouting report summary questions his hustle a bit and says he isn't the fastest from home to first..... but still rates him 50 out of 50 for speed.

Jason Cole clocked the 250-pound outfielder at 4.04 home-to-first from the right side of the plate, which is plus-plus territory for those scoring at home. Humans Puig’s size aren’t supposed to run sub-4.1 times from the right side. It throws off the balance of the world.

Tim Lincecum resigned with the Giants 2 years $35 million w/no trade clause.

It's a different world we're living in where a pitcher with a losing record the last 3 years gets that kind of coin.

And consider the fact that he had a monster second half this year and STILL couldn't get his ERA under 4...

Or even down to 4 for that matter.

I find the signing as confounding as you do.

It's just crazy money, but the way of the world, avoiding free agency, on the notion that he was 'perhaps getting it together' the 2nd half.

I'm a Phils fan and it was sad to see him deteriorate so quickly. But he sure was a blast to watch and, since he apparently doesn't have a shot to get back to his old self, I'm glad he's hanging them up.

It's apparently his back. I hope he can heal and lead a normal life. I saw him Sept. 27 1998 when he gave up a home run in the 9th to Bobby Higgenson to spoil a no hitter.
