Here are two of my favorite images I was able to capture yesterday, just as we returned to our cottage ... at moonrise. We're staying about 150ft. from the ocean with no buildings between us and the water. Sublime.

really like that first one, Ron. The moon seemed to recede as I looked at it.

Impressive pictures Ron & Coda!! I particularly like seeing the float planes, brings back memories. I love the northwest coast where float planes are mostly what's "parked" out front and, in the case of some of the places I was, the only way to get around other than by boat.

I have a question for the photogs on this thread. My wife has a relatively old Canon SLR (non-digital) with a bunch of lenses and has mentioned several times that she would like to get a digital SLR. Would her old lenses be usable on a digital body? I haven't seriously looked at this yet, but something Ron mentioned in an earlier post seemed to indicate that it's at least a possibility that it would work so this may be a surprise for xmas.

edit: after a quick google, it appears that it may be a possibility with some caveats (ie: have to adjust for the field of vision being smaller, zoom lenses will be zoomier and wide angles won't be so wide).

A couple of months here would be fabulous if money were no object. The relative humidity gives me problems, but our car's A/C helps in that regard. It's been between 80-92% since we arrived.

The photos above were taken from the front yard just as we returned from our day's travel around the island.

The quick answer is Yes, those lenses can be used with digital cameras, with the proper adapter. Micro 4/3 cameras have opened up a wonderful lens "recycling" movement. Three of the four lenses I have with me are from "old" 35mm film SLRs. More on that later.

Here is a short clip I shot a few days ago when the surf was high after a big storm. I wasn't using a tripod, and even though my camera has image stabilization, there is a little shakiness in places. Still, I think it's pretty cool. You can hear me say "nice ride" at the end.

There are lifeguards on-duty, but that's not a part of the Pacific Ocean for any but the strongest, most experienced swimmers.

Yesterday, Patti & I took a look at the weather and decided to head west to Waimea Canyon Park. It can get very cloudy on that part of the island at times, robbing you of any view of the canyon. We hit the jackpot! Not only was it gloriously sunny, we even got a very rare, totally clear view of the Napali Coast from the farthest lookout, about 4000 ft. in elevation. Spectacular!! We've been there at least a dozen times in the past, and only seen this sight twice.

I think you can identify with why Mark Twain dubbed this lovely place "The Grand Canyon of the Pacific" in the mid-1800s.

The top three photos are views of the canyon, and the bottom three are of the Napali Coast from high above. You can see the beach and waves in the bottom shot. Yep, that's my shadow at the railing.

Yeah, Waimea is a very special place. We had lunch at The Lodge at Koke'e State Park on the way up to the canyon. It was 88° at the ocean in Kekaha, and 64° at the top of the canyon road. Amazing.

The humidity has been reasonable for the past few days but is about to rise again, according to weather reports. When the tradewinds go away, so does the low humidity, and the tradewinds are expected to depart some time Thanksgiving day.

I just noticed that Amazon is selling the Canon PowerShot G15 for $299! I'm sure it's because the G16 just came out, but from what I understand it's not that much of an upgrade. Seems like too good a deal to pass up.

Well, I finally decided to pull the trigger. It was gone from Amazon, but Adorama had the same price with free shipping and NO tax.
I also found out that Amazon 'buys' select used equipment - and can get a decent price from them on my Nikon. Will help defray the cost.

I bought myself a "new" (gently used) Hexanon 55mm f3.5 macro prime lens for my Olympus E-PL1 for Christmas. It won't make it here until the end of the week, so I'm on full mailbox watch.
