My bedtime music choice last night. Hadn't played it in a long while but when it was new it hardly ever left my player.

The Joe Bushkin (who?) session is incredible. Actually, the Earl Hines that precedes it on Disc 2 is also great.

This has the Uri Caine stamp all over it, really nice work. I also enjoyed his duet with Han Bennink.

And Theo Bleckmann is everywhere this year...gets my vote for male vocalist 2013.

Bill Frisell, Joe Lovano, and Paul Motian in Tokyo. Three masters at the top of their game.

It's new on Concord Records. Very good, very similar to the their other recordings.

I'm not familiar with that group but I did listen to a few samples on eMusic and they sounded funky almost somewhere between fusion and smooth, is that a fair representation of them or did I just hear some lame samples?

I guess it's fusion. The recording I like best is called "Low Electrical Worker"--a couple of extremely funky tunes on that. The recording of Ives stuff is nice too. I wouldn't call those smooth, but maybe they've got some other stuff I haven't heard.

I don't think they fall into the smooth category, by any definition. I suppose they could be described as fusion, but mainly because they use an electric piano and the overall sound that comes with that. Funky on occasion.
