I posted there maybe a handful of times many, many years ago. But, I'm still sad to see it go.
Looks like some of the refugees are washing up on the O's beach, so that's a good thing.
I was just kidding....I've seen the messages saying they were upgrading the boards to the latest & greatest & suggesting donations.
Did they indeed shut it down?
I posted my radio guest list there which got the most views more quickly than any other jazz board, and very little else.
Here's what'd on the website about the forum right now:

As of 5 days ago according to the comments section on the link above, it still 'a work in progress.'

We're making progress! We're up on the new hosting service with a new landing page: http://forums.allaboutjazz.com.

Flickr has been either down or partially down for several hours (that I know of). Could be a coincidence, of course, but I wonder whether more sites are messed up and whether hacking is going on.
Re: Is All About Jazz dead too now?
There's nobody who seems to know what happened. I do hope the Organissimo forum comes back.

Seems it's the quarterly shut down for lack of funds...

Meanwhile, this modest little "experiment" is inching its way toward 5000 posts, and is not and will not seek funding from its members.
We wish no other boards troubles, though.

When JC was on it's last legs and before I knew about JT coming into existence, I thought I might end up visiting/posting on Organissimo a lot. So I made a fairly generous donation. It wasn't acknowledged in any way. I thought that was pretty lame.

There was acknowledgement to all on the call for funding thread, to be fair.

An individual thank you in a form letter email or PM is not too much to expect, to be fairer.

Jim Alfredson (Organissimo owner/admin) never acknowledges individual donations.

Re: Is All About Jazz dead too now?
I'm not buying that I had any moral obligation to send a personal thank you to Jim. Although, yes, I did when I ALSO sent in a financial contribution.
First of all, I never visited Organissimo until recently and once I started (briefly), I contributed when contributions were solicited.
Also, I don't think he deserves thanks for providing entertainment any more than say CBS or Sports Illustrated or MGM . I assume he didn't do it as a service for me or anyone else, and that he did it to promote his music. Which I have no problem with, and I think it's GREAT that the forum exists and has entertained many people.
Although some have sanctified Lois for starting and maintaing the JC forums, I also assume she did so to promote her business. This too is absolutely fine, and it was great for me to have the JC forums. And when it was closing, I thanked her, just like many others did .
But I still don't believe that the Speakeasy forums were provided as as a public service, as indicated by the fact that when she felt it was no longer good business to finance the forums, she killed them. Which, again, is absolutely fine and TOTALLY understandable.
In any event, once Organissimo was basically/mostly user supported, it was not good business and not good from a personal relationship perspective not thank people who made financial contributions, with a mere form letter private message or email.
Scott: You on the other hand provide this place as a service. And I sincerely thank you for it.
Yet you make a point of graciously thanking people for merely participating. I know damn well you'd have sent individual thank you's to people if you accepted monetary contributions and people made them.

Re: Is All About Jazz dead too now?
Well, since the subject has come up, I've been hoping for the eventual addition of a link to a PayPal account for purely voluntary contributions to Scott and any others who have been paying the bills for this place. That would be allowing funding, not seeking funding. One of my motives is purely selfish---I don't want the board to be shut down before its time because the financial burden has come to seem onerous.Ron Thorne wrote:Meanwhile, this modest little "experiment" is inching its way toward 5000 posts, and is not and will not seek funding from its members.

Then I hope you'll feel free to change your mind at some point and start to accept contributions.
Thanks (again), Scott!
