Ever notice when there's some story about some depraved and flat out weird criminal behavior that there's a 50% chance that the story is from the Tampa outskirts?

I actually like downtown St Petersburg very much. I think it's beautiful. One of my favorite events anywhere is the Saturday Morning Market in St Pete. I'm no expert on the people of the area. Maybe if I lived there I'd feel differently, but I have spent a lot of time in the area.

I also really like Gulfport, Passe-A-Grille and Fort DeSoto beaches/parks, all just outside of St Pete. My impression is that Tampa and surrounding is where the mutants are.

While doing some research in response to someone stereotyping the U.S./Florida.....found out Florida just had it's lowest overall crime rate in 42-years.

http://miami.cbslocal.com/2013/05/16/fl ... -42-years/

Though Murders/Sexual related crimes are up....

P.S. Never been to St Petersburg. I have been to Miami, the Keys and Tampa.

Sorry, Florida is more of a mess than Texas. At least no one caught fire while being executed in Texas....and then brag about it.

P.S. Hanging chads, anyone?

Utah is pretty screwy. The legislature's response to Sandy Hook was to introduce a bill where people could conceal carry without a permit. Doh. At least our governor vetoed it though.

I basically agree with previous posters about Utah, Texas and Florida.

Just wanted to point out that you can't paint entire states with the same brush. I once saw a great cartoon that made the point well: It was a road sign that said "Welcome to Park City: In but NOT of Utah"

Similarly, the politics and vibe of Austin couldn't be more different than many parts of Texas. Also similarly, Pinellas County Florida went for Obama last election and Gulfport (Florida, not Mississippi), Dunedin and Key West are certainly liberal and artsy in vibe. And the Saturday Morning Market in Downtown St Pete is one of the great regularly scheduled artsy (and seemingly lefty) gatherings I've ever had the pleasure to attend. It has the best people watching (especially for beautiful dogs and babies) and wonderful live music acts.

I realize I counted dog watching as people watching. Whatever.

California may not be as screwy, but a lot of things that go on here stagger the imagination.

Believe me, I live in FL and I know how looney tunes it is. But c'mon, I was born and raised in da Bronx, can there be anywhere on the PLANET as insane as NYC!? This coming from someone that will always have love in his heart for the Apple, so much so that I still make a point of going to the NY newspapers on a daily basis! How screwy does that make ME!?;)

I don't agree. NYC is nowhere as bad....and I was born there (okay, late 80's which is a different time then when you probably experienced.....beside my first 7-years between B (Cobble Hill...PS 29, BABY!) & M....I have spent a good deal of time off an on....and I still have family living there...including my two oldest siblings....ironically they were born in Boston. It's on when the Yankees play the Red Sox!

Anyway....back to Florida.

Pretty sure this is a FB first.

That story of Derek Medina allegedly killing his wife, then posting a photo on FB is beyond sick.

It's impossible to explain why so many misfits, violent offenders and such seem to dominate one locale or another.

I heard a NPR report about allegations that the now-shuttered Biogenesis Anti-Aging Clinic, which supplied performance enhancement drugs to baseball players, may have also supplied them to local high school students.
