Shamelessly Brag About Your Kid(s)
I'm proud and happy that my son, Justin, is helping us with this new board. He has many talents, including being a pretty damned good jazz drummer. He also plays piano, vibes, marimba and tympani. He speaks Japanese fluently, and has a keen eye behind the lens of a camera, too.

Brag about your Kids!
I expect Walto to be all over this. *
Come sometime in early Oct! It's ON!
* I still expect a mention/thank you (after she thanks family members) when she wins a Nobel, or whatnot!

No problem. I mimicked the title of Walto's thread on Self-Promotion, thus the word "Shamelessly" in use.

Re: Shamelessly Brag About Your Kid(s)
Khaya isn't my kid, but she's a kid I know and I want to shamelessly brag about her.
She's a 15 year old kid I know from Musicians on Call, where she's a volunteer guide who takes the musicians around the hospital to perform for patients. The guides deal with very sick people and hospital staff. .That in itself takes a remarkable amount of poise and maturity for a kid. (She's the only pre-adult who does it)
When Khaya is assigned to be my guide, I make sure she also sings. You'll see why from this video......
I fully expect that in the future I will be bragging that I've played music and sung with Khaya Cohen and people won't believe me. Right now she's in a summer songwriting program at NYU. Apparently she met some filmmakers there and did this professional looking video. She's written a half dozen songs of this quality in the last couple of weeks. She's also the nicest and smartest kid.
.At age 11 she won an essay contest and was flown out to South Africa to meet Nelson Mandela. Her essay is part of a Scholastic Books lesson plan. If she doesn't become Bonnie Raitt it might be because she chose instead to be President.
I TRIED TO EMBED, BUT WASN'T SUCCESSFUL. SO CLICK THIS LINK. YOU'LL BE GLAD YOU DID

Wow, pretty impressive, Steve. To my ears I'm getting some blues, a little Jazz and a touch of country, think Patsy Cline. This young lady brings it for sure.

I think you nailed it with respect to this song, but her voice to me also has some Billie Holiday.

Future son/daughter recognizes my voice when I read to him/her. Also kicks/punches/head butts/whatnot in time to the music.

Re: Shamelessly Brag About Your Kid(s)
This thread has languished long enough.
This amazing bit of Halloween fun was created by our son, Darren, the artist/log cabin builder, etc. As usual, the detail is amazing and you would think it works.
These are Darren's words from a Facebook post last night. We spoke with him by phone and had some great chuckles. Reed is his 10 year-old son, our grandson.
"Since Reed's WWII soldier can't bring his plastic Tommy gun to school, I got busy and made him another prop for the Halloween parade. A 4x4 fencepost scrap, a couple of lawn sprinklers, a bunch of spray paint, and some shop time, now he has a BC-611 Handie -Talkie." - Darren

Re: Shamelessly Brag About Your Kid(s)
Patti and I just returned from a visit to California where our two sons and their families live. We celebrated the 1st birthday of our youngest grandchild, Kai, enjoyed seeing 10 year-old Reed's fine performance in a Little League baseball game, and marveled at the dancing of 5 year-old Sophie at her 1st ballet recital on our last evening in California.
The night before leaving Anchorage, we attended the high school graduation of Jenna, our 18 year-old granddaughter, who graduated with honors. Cole, our 22 year-old grandson is working at a fitness center in Anchorage and is not pictured here.
Patti and I are very proud parents and grandparents!
Jenna on the Jumbotron during graduation
Jenna at lunch with us after our return to Alaska
Kai, happy and smiling, as usual
Reed pitching (prior to delivery)
Reed pitching (after delivery)
Sophie getting ready for dress rehearsal
