Welcome, Fred! Glad to see you here.

My wife & I heard Heart when I was working in AOR radio, many years ago. We met Ann & Nancy in the green room after the show. Sadly, Ann was pretty much "in her cups", but Nancy was very lucid and hip. I'm happy to see that things turned around in recent times. They're very talented and under-appreciated, in my book.

Shaun Cassidy in 6th grade. Does that count? LOL. I neither liked nor disliked him, but I'm pretty sure his older brother, David, was my first crush. No, I think it was Violent Femmes. OR, I don't think my dad would let me go to that one. Psych Furs? That's not rock either. I did see The Cure "Pornography" tour at the ancient fairgrounds in SLC. Maybe still not rock, rock. But that was a seriously cool musical experience! Glad I saw that show. Actually that was some hard guitar action - if not dexterous - I think it counts. Someone else would have to tell me what year it was. 1983?

I know you didn't ask for a "ruling" but for the purposes of this thread, punk, alternative, new age, soul, new Romantic, R&B, skiffle and folk rock count as "rock" :#1: . If someone's first live show was all macarena, post somewhere else. :bomb:

Sounds like a good ruling. :)

A ruling from the judges. Does it count....if you're were still not born? My younger twin sister and I went to a good deal of concerts before birth. :music:

I can't remember, but it was probably one of those free concerts that they had on Sundays at Provo Park in Berkeley in the 60s. Around that time, I also saw The Beatles, Albert King, BB King, The Rolling Stones, Janis Joplin and Big Brother, the Doors, Ike and Tina Turner, the Chambers Brothers, James Cotton... Thank you for taking me along, Dad!

Went here:
http://www.fillmore-east.com/showlist.html

Looking for what I thought was the 1st and while looking it over came across my true 1st! - Procol Harum/The Byrds/Raven - June 27, 1969 (I was 15!)

The one that I thought was 1st (actually the 2nd!;)- Santana/It's a Beautiful Day/American Dream - April 11, 1970

That Fillmore website is a lotta fun, just checking out the shows/billing Bill Graham put together. It was truly an amazing time, nothing today comes remotely close. AND tkt prices were ridiculous, I don't think I ever paid more than $5.50!

Ipswich Gaumont autumn 1966. Rolling Stones (w/Brian Jones on sitar and marimba). Support acts were the Yardbirds with Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page, and Ike & Tina Turner.

The first one I can remember seeing was Sergio Mendez (and the Brazil '66). I think one of my parents must have taken me. In Syracuse, but I don't know the exact year.

...and if that isn't rock enough for you, I saw Brownsville Station open for ZZ Top later that Summer on the same stage.

I was at Mahavishnu in 1974. In what way was it MK II?

I went to shows there all the time. I think it was the Schaeffer Music Fest in those days. When I first started going, in 70 or 71, tix were $1 and $2. It kind of blows my mind that money was so tight that we frequently bought the $1 seats OR didn't even pay and hung out and listened from outside the arena.

I'd bet anything that you've been to events of one kind or another where a live rock performance was part of it. Probably dozens of times.

I'd really like to see Sergio Mendez before I die. I'm really fortunate (plus, I work like mad to do it) ...I see a great deal of live music. But I've never even had an opportunity to go see Sergio Mendez anywhere at any price. And he's such a badass.

I usually don't go to many jazz festivals unless it's rigorously straight ahead. i.e. never to Playboy. I have
been inflicted with some rock players at blues fests. Early Monterey was straight ahead.

I remember enjoying it--there was one female vocalist who was very cute and could really sing. FWIW, the only other concert I can remember from about the same time was Sviatoslav Richter. He played Prokofiev's 7th Sonata and really smashed away. Though there probably were at least a couple, I can't think of a single concert of any kind besides those two before I went to college.

Could that vocalist have been Lani Hall?

Yes!! I just looked up the song "For Me" on YouTube, and she's the singer. Got a quick crush on her that night!
