My friend, drummer Danny Gottlieb, posted this on Facebook today. What a tribute this will be!
"Every once in a while you get to participate in something amazing! This is a photo from today's rehearsal with the SWR big band in Stuttgart, where we are preparing for tomorrow's special concert honoring the 75th birthday of the legendary bassist Eberhard Weber. Rehearsed today with Gary Burton and Pat Metheny-- the last time we played together was in 1977!!!!!
Pat has written a spectacular tribute work based around Eberhard's improvisations...Scott Colley is featured on bass, and legends Jan Garbarek, Ralph Towner, and Paul McCandless are also playing. And the band is just fantastic! What a gift!" — Danny Gottlieb

The New Yorker proclaimed Polish trumpeter Tomasz Stańko as "one of the most original and creative jazz trumpet
players in the world." Inspired by early Ornette Coleman, Miles Davis, and John Coltrane, he was 20 when he formed
his first band in 1962 and has been a jazz hero in Europe ever since. He has made many superb recordings for ECM
Records since the mid-1970s, when he was at the forefront of the free jazz scene. For most of the past decade, he
has been ranked among the world's top jazz trumpeters and composers. Stańko will present his great, first project
for ECM Records, Balladyna, based on the Polish tragedy by Juliusz Słowacki that was published in 1839.

And as noted on Tomasz Stańko's calendar (linked above), on March 29, 2015 he'll bring a different group to San Francisco. That gig will be part of an SFJAZZ four-night, four-concert ECM "Fest," the subject of a future post.

Re: Upcoming Gigs for ECM Recording Artists
From the NYT, in Nate Chinen's most recent selection of jazz gigs:
★ Steve Kuhn Trio (Tuesday, August 4 through Saturday, August 8)
There’s a soft glow of erudition to "Wisteria," a 2012 album by this acoustic piano trio. It comes from all three members of the group — the pianist Steve Kuhn, the bassist Steve Swallow and the drummer Joey Baron — but especially from Mr. Kuhn, 77, one of jazz’s most careful rhapsodists. At 8:30 and 11 p.m., Birdland, 315 West 44th Street, Clinton [NYC], 212-581-3080, birdlandjazz.com. (Chinen)
