Re: Jazz Videos
This video is pure magic, but it also saddens me to know that three of these great musicians are no longer with us.

Ron, I love that!
Let me know, what you think of this (sorry, not jazz, necessarily):

Re: Jazz Videos
Cem, I enjoyed the piece by Richard Thompson and the fine musicians and singers surrounding him. What a passionate performance! Thanks for sharing it.

Re: Jazz Videos
GG, that's definitely one of the most unique arrangements and presentations of Layla I've ever heard. I wouldn't have expected Wynton to be onboard with this, frankly.

Re: Jazz Videos
Continuing in the Kind of Jazz vein, here's the new David Bowie single
"Sue (Or In A Season Of Crime)"
Credits (which, along with more info., can be found at
http://www.davidbowie.com/news/sue-players-sound-file-rsd-sleeve-53601):
If that video clip gets yanked, there are several others on YouTube. And David Bowie has posted a SoundCloud clip (apparently private otherwise) at the bottom of this page:

Re: Jazz Videos
Thanks for posting this new Bowie/Schneider collaboration, bluenoter.
I love Maria Schneider, and had just received an e-mail from her about this project, but you beat me to it.
Here are the happy collaborators:
The lyrics:
Sue (Or In A Season Of Crime)
Sue, I got the job
We’ll buy the house
You’ll need to rest
But now we’ll make it
Sue, the clinic called
The x-ray’s fine
I brought you home
I just said home
Sue, you said you wanted writ
“Sue the virgin” on your stone
For your grave
Why too dark to speak the words?
For I know that you have a son
Oh, folly, Sue
Ride the train I’m far from home
In a season of crime none need atone
I kissed your face
Sue, I pushed you down beneath the weeds
Endless faith in hopeless deeds
I kissed your face
I touched your face
Sue, Good-bye
Sue, I found your note
That you wrote last night
It can’t be right
You went with him
Sue, I never dreamed
I’m such a fool
Right from the start
You went with that clown

Not soundcloud, vimeo or youtube, but a vid of one of my brother Dick's bands. He plays the second keyboard solo (on a moog).

Surely not all of a sudden. Less than half of a sudden at best.

Re: Jazz Videos
The video quality on this recording suffers, but it's a nice clip ... on Eddie Harris' birthday!
Eddie Harris (tenor sax)
Jodie Christian (piano)
Melvin Jackson (bass)
Billy Hart (drums)

Re: Jazz Videos
Heard this tune on Joshua's Trios Live and couldn't figure out what it was, it was so familiar. Then I read a review and they clarified for me, it was a Zeppelin tune! Bits of my misspent youth are coming back now...

Here's a fresh video featuring, among others, my friends Danny and Beth Gottlieb, in this all-star alumni salute to Gil Evans and Sweet Basil.

Re: Jazz Videos
A friend of mine I had lost contact with resurfaced in the Bay area recently. His name is David Haskell, and I know him from his days playing with Jim Pepper's band Muktuk. He writes nearly all of the material for his group. Here's a taste.

Tie everything down, turn up the volume, and enjoy the ride from nearly 40 years ago!

George Burton is a pianist and composer to be reckoned with ... another fine product of Philadelphia.
