A nice mix of Monk tunes from Ben.

What is Smith playing?

Over the past 10 years or so was playing drums, vibes and more recently saxophones.

I'm not pig pen, but Smith is playing drums---

Kenny Barron & Dave Holland, The Art of Conversation, just out. As classic as can be and just about perfect.

Jason Moran

The subtitle for the album is "A Joyful Elegy For Fats Waller" and he really nails it!

I'm listening to one of my all-time favorite jazz stations, KCSM, The Bay Area's Jazz Station, while watching the sun begin to settle in southern California. The quality of the light is wonderful.

Yes, Ron, great to have and hear it on vinyl… though one must be careful which version, I guess. Seems common to find duds, as there are a lot of scamming operations releasing subpar recordings not from the original analog source masters, but digital sources.

A sampling from Saturday's Toronto record safari:

James "Blood" Ulmer -- Odyssey

Working my way through this glorious recording, now on Disc 2, which begins with "Sophie". Oh, boy!

Man, do I love Kenny Wheeler's work! I can't believe I waited this long to add this to our library. "Better late ..."

I'm really enjoying this one, reminds me of Sonny Rollins at the VV.

This early birthday gift from a special friend is spinning for the 1st of many times. It's an extraordinary recording from 1968, now digitally re-mastered after being (essentially) "lost" for decades. A young Dave Holland, John McLaughlin, Evan Parker, John Taylor and Michael Gibbs are a part of this magical setting.

Some live recordings from the Smoke Jazz & Supper Club:

Footnote:
Eric Reeds Groovewise was released September 2014 and the cover says recorded September 6 & 7, 2014, which would be very fast. Cyrus Chestnuts Midnight Melodies was released July 2014 and cover says recorded November 22 & 23, 2014, which would be more than fast :silly: (some should tell Smoke to be be more attentive when typing a 2013 date in 2014)
Best wishes from the south-west corner of Germany
