Duels
Duels
I've read a bunch of bios and articles over the years that refer to times when a 'duel' or a 'cutting' contest happens on the bandstand. Recently I was listening to 'Montreux Summit', the live concert featuring the Columbia roster from the mid 70's. On the cut, Andromeda, there's a point when Maynard Ferguson and Woody Shaw start trading. MF starts hitting those trademark stratospheric high notes and Woody just blazes back. Back and forth. To me, it's a classic example of the musicians trying to one-up each other, all that's missing is boxing gloves! BTW, I gave the decision to Woody!;). With all the many records I got, I don't think I have that many examples of the duel/cutting type thing I'm talking about. So I'm looking for some examples/recommendations. I'm not looking for politely trading 4's, I'm in the mood for some action!

I love this:
There's a great battle between McLaughlin and Goodman (at 4,270 MPH) starting at 2:49.

Surely not all of a sudden. Less than half of a sudden at best.
