I go back to the first one that knocked me out. It was after the Newport Jazz Festival in 1958, a Newport All-Stars package, including Thelonious Monk and Lennie Tristano. The singer was Anita O'Day and she blew my mind. There have been many since but that first 'live' experience was one I'll never forget.

Jimmy Scott at Birdland in NYC...twice.

Betty Carter mid-90s at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver.
Theo Bleckmann in 2006 with Ben Monder, Chris Gestrin & Dylan van der Schyff at Rime in Vancouver.
