I could have sworn there was a thread on this board but I can't find it. I was just checking to see if anyone had posted a link to the NY Times obituary, if this already posted my apologies.

I thought I posted it here... I know I sent it to some mutual friends.

Sad news. :(

Was he related to Ken at all?

Don't think so. Ken was from Boston.

the New York Times obit wrote:A documentary short made in 2010 by Danilo Parra showed [McIntyre] playing on subway platforms and preparing to record an album.

The NYT's link goes to a video posted at the Guardian in September 2010. Here's the Guardian's intro to the video:

the Guardian, on Sept. 13, 2010, wrote:Kalaparusha Maurice McIntyre: 'That's not a horn, it's a starvation box'

Kalaparusha Maurice McIntyre is a 74-year-old jazz saxophonist, who once played with Miles Davis and now busks in New York's subway system to support himself and his wife, Antoinette.

Danilo Parra follows Kalaparusha through the city's crumbling jazz rehearsal spaces as he records his final album, Closeness

And here's the same video, which the Guardian posted on YouTube in June 2011:

R.I.P.

How did they know it would be his "final album?"

Good question! On that page are automatically generated (I guess) video thumbnails from various dates, but that whole caption is clearly marked as having been posted, along with the video, on Sept. 13, 2010.
