Wow, that looks like quite a fine festival. If Jim Pepper was alive he would likely be involved, with Mal Waldron or a rhythm section of his own. He spent quite a bit of time performing and recording in Austria prior to his death.

Didn't know that, Ron.

In the former case, Mal Waldron would also need to be alive.

I thought so too, to the extent that I know. And the lineup that I posted accounts for only two of the festival's five stages/programs.

BTW, everyone, I corrected a couple of obvious errors in the festival website's info., such as a dup that shows Nels Cline and Marc Ribot hailing from Japan. There may be others.

I'm hip to that, bluenoter. I'm also hip to the fact that if Jim was alive, Mal would be too. Jim passed in 1992, Mal in 2002, a decade later. Both were sad, major losses.

Image To me, that's a fascinating difference in the way our minds work. Maybe we can discuss it off the board sometime. But R.I.P., Jim Pepper and Mal Waldron, who, sadly, can't be involved in Jazzfestival Saalfelden 2014.
