Get Started Early with May Jazz Festival Events
The Healdsburg Jazz Festival gets off to an early start this year with several events in May – two Freedom Jazz Choir concerts and our popular Jazz Night at the Movies, this year in nearby San Rafael.
Marcus Shelby and the Freedom Jazz ChoirMay 17, Saturday: First performance from the Marcus Shelby Orchestra, with the HJF Freedom Jazz Choir, of “Harriet Tubman: Bound for the Promised Land.” This premiere event will be at the Sonoma Community Baptist Church, 1620 Sonoma Ave., Santa Rosa. May 18, Sunday: (Note corrected date) An evening of jazz on film with archivist Mark Cantor, including rare and newly discovered film clips of the early stars of jazz.
