Earshot Jazz 2013 - Seattle

Postby Ron Thorne » June 28th, 2013, 7:04 pm

Earshot Jazz presents...
Jazz: The Second Century
New Music :: Resident Artists :: Two Concerts

Thursdays, July 11 and July 25
Chapel Performance Space, 7:30pm
Good Shepherd Center (Wallingford), 4649 Sunnyside Ave N, Seattle
Admission is sliding scale $5-$15 suggested donation.
Tickets available in advance at Brown Paper Tickets or 1-800-838-3006.

Thursday, July 11
Syrinx Effect / Chemical Clock

Syrinx Effect is Naomi Siegel (trombone, pedals, field recordings) & Kate Olson (saxophone, effects). The duo plays contemporary, improvised music with electronics. The two trade responsibilities in driving the shape and form of the pieces, each, at times, soloing minimally and sweetly or bombastically.

Chemical Clock is Cameron Sharif (keyboard), Ray Larsen (trumpet), Mark Hunter (bass), Evan Woodle (drums). "Yet another band arising from Seattle's embarrassment of avant-jazz riches, Chemical Clock is an aggressive and determined young band with a lot of good ideas and more than enough chops to pull them off." -- Dave Wayne, AllAboutJazz.com

Thursday, July 25
Eric Ring / Paul Kikuchi's Autonomic Ensemble

Eric Ring (piano). Ring's Second Century submission, solo piano, shows the pianist in pensive mode. He writes: "This music is an exploration of texture, voicing and song in small compositions ... these pieces are deliberately quiet."

Paul Kikuchi’s Autonomic Ensemble is Paul Kikuchi (percussion and composition), Taina Karr (oboe), Ivan Arteaga (clarinet), Greg Sinibaldi (bass clarinet), Tari Nelson-Zagar (violin), Eyvind Kang (viola), Natalie Mai Hall (cello), John Teske (bass). He writes: Jazz... "is the continued effort of those devoted to musical exploration through improvisation, dialogue, form, freedom and the joy of creating. Jazz is the individuals who make it, who continue the search.”
