Irrespective of what the Cubs are paying for pitchers, you gotta love that play, Clint. C'mon. It was creative and quick-thinking at its best. And, Rizzo drops his glove at 1st to better enable him to catch Lester's glove with the ball wedged in the webbing.

I'm interested to see what the Cubs do this year with Joe Maddon as their new skipper. He's a solid baseball man.

Kirk Gibson has Parkinson's, vows to 'meet challenge'

Kirk Gibson, the Tigers great and former Michigan State two-sport star, has been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.

Gibson, in his first year back as an analyst with Fox Sports Detroit, has been absent from the FSD broadcast booth since the April 6 Opening Day telecast. He explained why in a statement released Tuesday by FSD that also noted he would not grant interviews and requested privacy.

"I have faced many different obstacles in my life, and have always maintained a strong belief that no matter the circumstances, I could overcome those obstacles," Gibson, 57, said. "While this diagnosis poses a new kind of challenge for me, I intend to stay true to my beliefs. With the support of my family and friends, I will meet this challenge with the same determination and unwavering intensity that I have displayed in all of my endeavors in life. I look forward to being back at the ballpark as soon as possible."

MLB first: Orioles, White Sox to play ‘closed to public’ game in Baltimore

The Baltimore Orioles and Chicago White Sox will play an afternoon game Wednesday with no fans in attendance, the baseball team announced. It is the first time in Major League Baseball history that there will not be a crowd by design.

After canceling Monday and Tuesday’s games between the two teams due to protests and riots throughout Baltimore, MLB announced that Wednesday’s 2:05 p.m. ET game would be “closed to the public.”

"After conversations with the Orioles and local officials, we believe that these decisions are in the best interests of fan safety and the deployment of city resources," Commissioner Rob Manfred said in a statement.

"Our thoughts are with all those who have been affected by violence in Baltimore, and everyone in our game hopes for peace and the safety of a great American city."

The game will still air on television and radio, but it’s the first time an MLB game will be played in private, according to the league. With the presence of broadcasting crews, the game will have more people watching in person than the lowest attended game in MLB history.

Though a Yankee hater from way back I have to acknowledge Alex Rodriguez' milestones this year. I don't care about drugs or money in sports, I find it boring and anybody who gives a tinkers toss about baseball in 50 years will know the circumstance of the era. Over 2000 RBI, moving in on 3000 hits, 666 homers and currently .299 BA for his 20 year career is impressive. It's a shame it can't be celebrated because of his dumb choices.

That said I hope he and the whole damn team slumps and fights each other on the bench and falls to the basement.

Alan, a part of me is ambivalent with respect to Alex, but as with you, I can't totally ignore his milestone achievements, either. What a dummy to have made those choices, tainting his record forever. Sad, really.

Wow! It sounds like that trade (that you so cleverly allude to) didn't quite work out for your Blue Jays Alan.

Meanwhile my Blue Jays just picked up arguably the best shortstop in the game and the best rental pitcher this week to catapult them back into relevance.

R.A. Dickey is simply amazing! I could watch him just about every day. He used to play for a franchise a lot closer to us, in Seattle.

Got to see most of the game today with Toronto vs. Kansas City, and I thought the Blue Jays would take this one ... until the top of the 8th. The Jays are a fun team to watch this year!

It has been an exciting week for sure. Today's loss was tough as our pick-up relief from Seattle Mark Lowe had a tough outing.

Seattle's park is the best park I've been to. The whole place smells of garlic fries.
