Shameless Self-Promotion

Have a paper in the new issue of the philosophy journal Abstracta. Third publication in the last three or four years. Kind of proud that I've been able to reinsert my (smelly old) self into the field after being pretty much out of it since the early 1980s. None of the three has gotten in easy, though. Each required a bunch of rewrites and at least one rejection someplace.

Anyhow, the goal is to get an adjunct position someplace so I'll have something to do with myself when I retire from my state regulator job in a few years. I figure these pubs will help my chances in Ph.D-rich Boston.

Excellent! A published author! You go!

On the Shameless Self-Promotion front, I've been doing lots of voice-overs... about 75 or so.

I did one for Bermuda Tourism, another for McDonald's and one for (no joke) Ostrich Races at a racetrack in Tennessee.

MM. I'm jealous. I'd love to do voice over work.

On my own shameless self-promotion front, my recordings on SoundCloud have now been listened to over 1000 times.
My most popular listen and download has been Baby It's You
https://soundcloud.com/steve-thelil/baby-its-you

Next most popular has been Iko Iko
https://soundcloud.com/steve-thelil/iko-iko

I think my best is It's All Over Now - the Womack and Womack composition popularized by the stones. My all guitar and voice version is based on Dirty Dozen's Brass Band arrangement

My fusion/funk stuff instrumentals are here.

On and off since 1987 in Toronto primarily but also in Rome and New York.

I feel very lucky to know Howard Rees and Barry Harris.

Tres cool, King Stoner (Oh shit, I'm channelling DEEP)

Are you the same Alan Kingstone who Amazon says authored several books on neuroscience??

Somebody in Latvia just listened to my recording of Iko Iko. (I'm not making this up)

(By my puny standards, It's been pretty popular on Soundcloud, with 76 listens and 14 downloads)

That guy's from University Of British Columbia and I'll bet he can't even play a 'D' Chord.

I always knew what kind of girl I was: I always got paid. It saved me from embarrassing conversations about talent. Now I'm experimenting. Whether for good or ill, I expect to find out soon enough.

It's only a home recording (so far with 23 free listens on SoundCloud, which in my unambitious music career is the equivalent of a hitting the charts it's first day), but this IS the SHAMELESS Self-Promotion thread. It's a great Nick Lowe composition, performed fast a la Rockpile (rather than Nick's slow, reggaefied solo version). I play all the parts (the drums are programmed)

Thanks, MJB!

Here's my latest recording. I'm getting the feel for multi-tracking.

Steve, sung to the tune of that Paul Simon song, I say, still handsome after all these years. And...sounding good.

My latest recording. My last two were sort of rockabilly crooners so I wanted to go for something with more of a loud Clash/Ramones guitar attack and some snarling vocals (with some Elvis C style cheezy organ). If you play it through cheap tinny laptop speakers your laptop will explode (not really) so I recommend (beg?) that you listen through earbuds, phones or better speakers.

Nice Steve! Great guitar sound and your voice really suits that style.

Thanks King Stoner!

Here's my latest. It's a Prince cover (done in a vocal style inspired by Mitch Ryder's cover of the same song). I did try a falsetto on the backing vocals, which was a pisser!

I didn't know the original tune, but I like your version.

Thanks PP!

Here's another cover of an old soul tune done sort of as a soul/rockabilly hybrid. As with my Prince cover (see posts above) I sung it much lower than original's high pitched vocal. This was the first hit by the Jackson 5, and probably their best. I perform all the parts.

Your voice reminds me of someone, I'm thinking Elvis Costello but I'm not sure if that's right. In any case, well done.

Here's what I've been fooling around with on tenor sax:

https://soundcloud.com/cleger15/easygoingbassline-100813-2

Just me trying to come up with something melodic over a pretty static bassline. It's from an on-going thread on a sax site that I frequent, one person puts up a backing and everyone takes a shot at improvising something over it.
