Kind of Blue was recorded on March 2nd and April 22nd at Columbia Records in NYC, and released on August 17, 1959. It has appeared in every format of recorded music known to man, and is the best-selling jazz recording of all time.
To some, KOB is a hot button topic, almost as likely to cause serious debate and teeth-gnashing as a conversation involving Wynton Marsalis or Kenny G.
This album was the very first jazz album I ever heard start-to-finish, and is responsible for my lifelong love of jazz. I heard it within a few months of its release, thanks to my high school buddy, Mike. Thanks, Mike, wherever you are!
