I don't think they fall into the smooth category, by any definition. I suppose they could be described as fusion, but mainly because they use an electric piano and the overall sound that comes with that. Funky on occasion.

Maybe I'll have to give them the chance of a download as more of a true listen. You know how those 30 second samples can be, it all depends on how the beginning of the tune sounds goes.

I missed it when this came out and just became aware of it today.

I enjoyed their September Trio album but this one is kicking off with a lot more fire. Ellery's smokin on the first track.

I'm just finishing up a first listen.
It's just OK IMO....I'm finding practically all the ensemble playing much to dense, seemingly too closely packed together

Great little two-fer.

Last night I listened to Kind of Blue followed by Sketches of Spain. Not that daring or original a choice on my part, but still some of the most beautiful music ever put on tape.

I had thought for years that when hearing her sing jazz standards, the tone of her voice and delivery would be a great fit for Joni Mitchell material.

I saw her from up real close at a jazz fest. She's quite attractive to look at as well as to listen to.

Wow. Listened to this one I picked up at my favorite record store a few days ago with absolutely no idea about who these guys were and what to expect, and I think it's a wonder.
Are others by Lanegan as good?

I just saw Lanegan live on Monday and was listening to the CDs/LPs I have and other things on the web to prepare for the concert. He's consistently good. The one with Garwood is the only purely acoustic record he's done (at least I think so), but there is a bluesy, noir-ish tinge to everything he does that I find appealing. The ones with Isobel Campbell are especially good. I've just heard the early solo stuff for the first time and those are probably his best work.
