I'm in a Stanko kind of mood. This 2-CD set is a Father's Day gift from my son, Justin (jtx here), and a welcome one.

Re: What Are You Listening To?
I'm about to attempy something that I haven't done before, that is transcribing a solo from a recording. I am going to attempt to transcribe Frank Foster's solo from Monk's We See on the 1954 album "Monk". So, I am at the point of listening to the tune over and over. I already have the tune well ingrained since I play it pretty regularly and I play the melody from memory with no issues so I thougt it would be a good tune to try this with. Frank's solo isn't going to be the easiest but it seems at least possible for my feeble musical brain.

1. Hope that endeavor goes well.
2. You've got mail---a PM that I sent you a while back. FYI, since JT's software upgrade,
- At the top right of the home page (Forums / Board Index page), here's the icon for PMs, circled in red. (You may see fewer icons, but you'll see that one.)
And here's the link:

Re: What Are You Listening To?
Thanks for the heads up.
As for my transcription project, the beauty of being a hack hobbyist is that nobody has any expectations. I plan to go at this a little at a time and try to enjoy the process. No rush for me.

A few recent additions that I have been enjoying. I think Bird Calls is my favourite release thus far from Rudresh.

This is a download only release. Nice eMail from Dave:
When I invited Tyler McDiarmid and Geoff Countryman (the same team for all the Live at Jazz Standard projects, starting in 2006!), we said we'd get it out by Tuesday, November 24.
I asked them why we couldn't do it overnight like we did in 2006. They responded by saying, "Because we're not insane any more!"
We are taking a little extra time to make sure the sound is the most excellent representation of the live band.

Last night, I thoroughly enjoyed a young quintet I had never heard before, the Aaron Seeber Group via Smalls Jazz Club live feed. It's experiences such as this that give me hope and make me smile
