Six jazz musicians receive Doris Duke Artist Awards for 2015

On April 2, 2015, the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation (DDCF) announced the names of 20 new Doris Duke Artist Award recipients,
among whom are six jazz musicians. Each will receive $275,000 in flexible multiyear funding.
The six jazz musicians are
Muhal Richard Abrams
Ambrose Akinmusire
Darcy James Argue
Steve Coleman
Okkyung Lee
Yosvany Terry
To qualify for consideration, according to a press release, Doris Duke Artists "must have won grants, prizes or awards on a national
level for at least three different projects over the past 10 years, with at least one project having received support from a DDCF-funded
program. The panel chose the artists based on demonstrated evidence of exceptional creativity, ongoing self-challenge and the continuing
potential to make significant contributions to the [field] of jazz, contemporary dance [or] theatre in the future."
