Postby bluenoter » April 2nd, 2015, 11:50 am

On April 2, 2015, the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation (DDCF) announced the names of 20 new Doris Duke Artist Award recipients,
among whom are six jazz musicians. Each will receive $275,000 in flexible multiyear funding.

The six jazz musicians are

Muhal Richard Abrams
Ambrose Akinmusire
Darcy James Argue
Steve Coleman
Okkyung Lee
Yosvany Terry

To qualify for consideration, according to a press release, Doris Duke Artists "must have won grants, prizes or awards on a national
level for at least three different projects over the past 10 years, with at least one project having received support from a DDCF-funded
program. The panel chose the artists based on demonstrated evidence of exceptional creativity, ongoing self-challenge and the continuing
potential to make significant contributions to the [field] of jazz, contemporary dance [or] theatre in the future."
