On Sunday 6/1/14 join us for A TRIBUTE TO
"NEW YORK EYE AND EAR CONTROL"
The 50th Anniversary of the Free Jazz Classic!

SUNDAY JUNE 1, 3PM - 6:30PM: Summer 2014 brings with it the 50th anniversary of the recording of the immortal album NEW YORK EYE AND EAR CONTROL, the free jazz score to the film of the same name by experimental film maker Michael Snow. His brief 1964 film is very hard to come by these days but the soundtrack recording has never lost its luster and stands as a hallmark of Free. It brought together the unique instrumental voices of Albert Ayler, Don Cherry, John Tchicai, Roswell Rudd, Gary Peacock and Sunny Murray. Whew! It would take at least three screaming ensembles of musicians to pay proper tribute to that!

So just as the summer concert season opens in NYC, ' A TRIBUTE TO NEW YORK EYE AND EAR CONTROL' will do just that. The concert opens with a powerful but brief set by celebrated downtown poet Steve Dalachinsky, collaborating with alto saxophonist Rocco John Iacovone and percussionist John Pietaro (on bongos). Other guests may join in. We then move to a full set of fire music by the Ras Moshe Unit followed by an all-star ensemble of Free Jazz veterans including Daniel Carter, Karl Berger, Warren Smith, Will Connell and Ingrid Sertso. The session will close off in style, with the very big band, 12 Houses Orchestra, led by Matt Lavelle.
Special guest speaker from ESP-Disk.
