There is considerably more to this limited-edition commemorative piano than meets the eyes...

“Tears came to my eyes the first time I heard Oscar’s notes resonate from the piano,” said Peterson’s widow, Kelly Peterson, who flew from her home near Toronto for An Evening with Tommy Banks at the Epcor Centre.

“Close your eyes and you can imagine Oscar right there with you.”

The grand piano, numbered one in a limited edition of 12, and the only one in Canada, is capable of recreating “live” performances originally recorded by Montreal-born Peterson, the man American composer Duke Ellington called the Maharaja of the keyboard.

With a touch of a button, the instrument’s keys and pedals come alive, moving up and down to recreate original performances the way Peterson (1925-2007) played them 40 years ago.
