Re: Junk food you'd eat more if nutrition/weight wasn't an i
I'm not sure why people keep mentioning nuts. Nuts are actually an incredibly healthy food. As with anything, moderation is key. A recent study found a strong correlation with nut eating and longevity. I also remember an interview with a cultural anthropologist who said the one thing he found commo...

I'm secure enough in my gender confusion (it that's what it takes) to be totally onboard the nutella bacon thing, without even having tried it.

If something ain't broke(n), don't try to fix it.
And if your turkey IS broke(n), don't try to patch it up with a duck and a chicken.

Re: Apple music player alternatives
Not having any alternatives to compare it to, I'm basically quite happy with iTunes. The main thing I use it for is podcasts. For me the ease of subscribing to podcasts and transferring them to my phone - you basically do nothing except connect the computer to phone- is fantastic.

JUST SAY NO to Turducken!
I find myself feeling revulsion for any food preparation/dish that becomes the rage for awhile without deserving it. I consider turducken one such dish
And how can you get excited about a dish that starts with "turd…."
Happy Festivus, Y'all

Re: Apple music player alternatives
It's the software. But it's still weird. I wonder if there are more ways to shuffle but I simply haven't looked to them because you don't do it the same way I used to. BTW, when I first got my iPhone, the operation and functions of the player were virtually identical to my old iPod's, FWIW.

Re: Apple music player alternatives
I think you can shuffle within an album (not sure) on an iPhone/IOS/ w/iTunes. However, I think that with the current versions you can no longer shuffle within a genre or across genres, which I miss. That said, I bet you'd find any other music player alternatives frustrating (and maybe more frustrat...

I hear you. I have no doubt you love singing those songs. That's not what I was getting at. I just wonder whether the people you'd be playing for in a Vegas lounge overnight would ultimately bum you out. I have no idea. I'd be the guy at the bar yelling requests. Anything by Stephen Foster. THIS is...

Re: Songs for Drunks, Losers, and Other Assorted Insomniacs
Please do not post nudity on the board, folks. Many people look at this board while at work, and having something like that pop up on their screen could end up getting them into a lot of trouble. Sorry about posting the picture. I just thought it would be a human interest story to show LeBron autog...

You want to experience that gig - until you didn't. But do you really think you want it as your day in day out thing? I guess it's really hard to know unless you do it.

Re: What was the first adult literature you enjoyed?
I've been a voracious reader since childhood. The 1st book I can remember that I'd consider 'adult' was The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka. .... Really? I just bought my first bunch of Kafka. I'm 52! I'm older and almost ready to start on some Kafka. When I was 52 I still thought it was an Israeli sn...

Sports you used to follow that you hardly do now.
What sports did you used to follow that you hardly do now, and why? When I was a kid I was a big fan and follower of Track and Field. I don't think the sport has changed in ways that make me follow it less. I think what has changed is that it is just not covered on TV or in the press like it used to...

What was your first music festival? How was it?
I posted this on the Alley because for some people it would be a jazz festival and for some a rock festival, and for some it was a macarena festival. OK, maybe not. I think my first one was Watkins Glenn (which was officially called "Summer Jam" I think) My parents didn't allow me to go to...

What was the first adult literature you enjoyed?
This is slightly derivative of my earlier "what was the first adult TV show you were into" thread, but since I am not John Fogerty and my former record company doesn't own my earlier thread, I don't think I can get sued for plagiarizing myself. Anyway, for me (and I'm betting many others) ...

Re: Rock songs you liked or noticed before you got into rock
For people of my era it might be a different question, because top 40 radio didn't become mostly rock until after the Beatles broke in the US, so exposure to rock before that was less of a given. For you kids (heh heh), I assume you couldn't help being exposed to rock before you decided to follow mu...

I am an I amn't. When it comes to technology that is a replacement for a technology I'm already very involved in, I've been slow. I was late to CDs (because I was so involved emotionally with my vinyl collection). I was late to iPod because I was committed to my cd collection and therefore content w...

Where did you first start posting on the internet?
As far as I can recall, in my early posting days, I posted on what was then known as the Usenet and later "News Groups." Back in those days, I don't recall many sites on the "regular" internet that had discussions. I think I posted most on a usenet Skiing group and alt.music.jazz...
