Re: Cameras & Photography

Wow - very dramatic, Ron!

This isn't nearly as scenic, but an interesting view over Greenland from a trip to London last year.

Good luck with this!
Organissimo just went through an upgrade which sounded like it was more work than expected.

Re: David Gitin — R.I.P.

I only met David a handful of times when he lived in the Bay Area, but he was always extremely nice and a great conversationalist. I'm sorry to hear of his passing. I know he will be missed by his many friends.

Right ... I wonder what those first 12 acts in the list have to do with New Orleans Jazz & Heritage? :silly:

Re: What will I download next?

That Galper does sound nice - I just listened to the clips. And for $2.94, it's pretty much of a no-brainer. I agree with Ron, a VERY under-appreciated pianist.

Always been a BIG fan of "Now Hear This" with Galper, Terumasa Hino, Cecil McBee and Tony Williams.

Re: Jazz in the San Francisco Bay Area

BFrank and peterdubya--- Glad that the SFJAZZ post (#37) reminded y'all. SFJAZZ seems like a nearly peerless resource, in both quality and quantity. Enjoy the events that you attend! I definitely do, bluenoter, and have been a member for about 5 years, as well. Not only that ... I live ...

Very nice for all the recipients, but it's a paltry sum of money in this day and age, unfortunately. I hope their residency is 'all expenses paid.'

Definitely not an early adopter for many of the same reasons that sozamora mentioned.

Rita -- I used to shop at Safeway all the time when I lived in Arkansas. I live in upstate New York now, near Albany, and we don't have them. We don't even have a Wegman's which is supposed to be an excellent chain, and it is based in New York state. Hannaford is HQd in Maine I think. Safeway is HQ...

Re: Retirement

At 62, I am still trying to save. I am saving probably close to 25-30% of my income (it varies from month to month, so I don't know a definite figure). Does it make sense to throttle back on that at some point? My thought is that I should save as much as possible to leave my kids, but I don't want ...

Re: Retirement

If someone can set aside 6% from age 40, and conservatively invests it, there will be sufficient funds available at retirement. Yes - anyone who works for a company that offers any form of 401k matching should contribute at LEAST enough to get that. Consider it part of your total compensation that ...

Re: Retirement

If you were self-employed you wouldn't have a 401k, you would have an IRA. They have different rules/limits. SEP-IRA is for small businesses.
