Using a "gentler" rum than 151 proof would make it a little less potent. Just saying... Personally, I don't like to mix liquors in eggnog, but maybe that's just me. I use either rum or brandy. But I haven't made it since the days when I taught my "Holiday Treasures" cooking class...
