Re: Bandcamp Helping Musicians!

Thanks. I bought Tomeka Reid Quartet Old New (Cuneiform). I can already tell you that it is highly recommended.

SiriusXM Real Jazz Channel

Anybody listening to SiriusXM? I started listening about a 1/2 year ago and have been wondering where this has been all my life. Whoever is creating their playlists is amazing. It's incredibly varied and the emphasis seems to be on what's great to listen to instead of what's been known to be popular...

Re: Vic Juris — R.I.P.

I saw Mr. Juris in support of Jerry Bergonzi a few years ago in Denton, TX and became an immediate fan despite the fact I didn't even know who he was prior to that. Highly underrated guitarist. R.I.P.

Why is there nothing to talk about any more? Facebook sucks, a bunch of conservative Goodspeaks. :)

I just bought this today at a bargain price ($1). I'm a big fan of Henri Texier but this album cover is awful. I almost didn't buy it even at that price.

Re: What Movies Are You Watching?

Has anybody seen that hunk of dung Whiplash? C'mon already, I know that jazz musicians take their craft very seriously but this was laughably over-the-top with the drummer frequently drumming until he's horribly bleeding and doesn't even let a serious car crash keep him from missing an (obviously) v...

Re: What TV shows are you watching?

The Americans. Season 1 was great. I'm a little bit let down by the second so far but it's still good. Fargo. Being a Minnesotan, I'm insulted by the over-the-top accents but it's quickly jumped to the top of the heap for me. Pretty close to genius in my eyes. Btw, I believe the original movie said ...

Just finishing Tune In by Mark Lewisohn, volume 1 of a planned 3 part bio of the Beatles The first volume is close to 1000 pages I think (I have a kindle version, so not sure what it is in real book form) and it only goes through 1962!!! Amazingly detailed and researched AND a fun read. 5 Montes. M...

Re: Let us deify Sonny Rollins

Let's put it this way, during that period of 1956-1957, nobody could touch Sonny and even to this day,you can't get what Sonny was selling then. The only stinker on that list from Tom to my ears is Plays For Bird, and the only one I haven't heard is Tour de Force. I was just wondering if there are a...

Re: Keurig, I don't see how anything very good could result from old ground up coffee sitting in little plastic cups for some uncertain period, and what I've had at various businesses has tasted a bit better than instant, but not much. OTOH, maybe it's possible to get something good from them if yo...

Bebop's not going to like this but I have to mention how much I love the Keurig machines. I am not a big coffee drinker and this makes it easy for me to make a decent cup of coffee. All I know is it's better than what I make on my own. It's the Kindle of coffee makers, I guess.

Re: What Movies Are You Watching? Part 1

Anyone watched The Turin Horse? I have it on blu-ray but haven't managed to watch it yet. I wouldn't confidently recommend it to anybody but I loved it. A great deal of the movie is spent watching the grumpy old man and daughter eat boiled potatoes with their bare hands but there is something mesme...

Re: Googling gizmo

As I understand it, it does have the ability to put internet content on your TV but that it apparently doesn't work too good right now. Currently, I have to hook a hdmi cord from my laptop to my TV to do that so being able to accomplish that with just a dongle would be really cool. So, to me, what t...
