Re: Coronavirus and You
It's just a matter or perspective. Two months ago, I was in China. Businesses were closing, streets were deserted, parks schools and libraries were closing, the government was actively warning everyone to take precautions. So no change for me as I pass (briefly) through the United States.

I don't have a "home", I'm a perpetual traveler. But I'm out of Greater China. (Nothing particular wrong with the place, other than coronavirus, at the moment.)

Re: Coronavirus and You
Yes, I just finished my quarantine period, in Guangdongsheng. While the outbreak is centered in the People's Republic of China, the effects on travel - lodging, air flights, et cetera - are global. (I'm not suggesting that this is not appropriate, just observing.)

I don't know where all y'all are, but is coronavirus messing with anyone's life or head (other than mine)? I won't go on about it, unless it's meaningful to anyone else. But, briefly, I travel perpetually and

Re: SiriusXM Real Jazz Channel
I'm seldom in places where SiriusXM is available. Real Jazz is a fine channel, if not exactly to my tastes today. When I was younger, less curmudgeonly, I think I would have liked it a lot. I was blessed in my youth to have broadcast radio stations - AM and FM - that played mainstream jazz, much lik...

I've spent most of the last few decades with only intermittent internet access. As a result, I'm hard-pressed to identify what might be missing or in need of improvement. ...but I would like to see this place survive and thrive. Re: Stuff To Talk About
Having worked too much on the periphery of Silicon Valley, I'm not on Facebook. Or Twitter. Or Instagram. Or whatever else. I would love to see this place host lively dialogue...not necessarily like JazzCentralStation, the BlueNote BB or any other place. This is a different and unique spot. I spend ...

Re: Ron Thorne — R.I.P.
I stop by when I have internet access. It's no so much looking for new content (though that would be swell); I'm just thinking of Ron and his efforts to build this. When I settle into a life where there is reliable, omnipresent internet access, I would love to have a place like this to participate i...

I'm glad to hear everyone is okay. I've been through a two "big ones" (relatively speaking), Loma Prieta and Northridge, CA and know how disruptive they can be even for those who come through okay.

The final of a half-dozen times I had the pleasure, I heard Randy Weston as part of the Charlie Parker Jazz Festival at Marcus Garvey Park, late August 2016. He was ninety. Inspired and inspiring, still. Thanks.

Re: Jazz in the San Francisco Bay Area
One of the places I visit in the United States from time to time is the Bay Area. For jazz, among other things, I found this cool map: https://yaymusicmap.com/location/sfbay. Created by a person named/using the handle Kyle Pennell. There's still come jazz at Yoshi's in Oakland https://eventbritesite...

Re: Do You Consider Yourself An Audiophile?
Audiophile? No. I started buying listening-oriented equipment back in the mid-1970s - Audio Research, conrad-johnson, Linn, Acoustat... It all became pretty interesting to me, so I started working in the high-end stores, mostly in sales, but doing some repair work on valve electronics too. (Day job,...

I've got clients in Los Angeles proper these days, so I'm spending a lot more time in DTLA (Downtown Los Angeles). The place to go for that "jazz" stuff, if you're into that, is the Blue Whale, http://www.bluewhalemusic.com/. Vincent Herring, Eric Revis, David Binney, Dan Weiss/Ben Monder/...

Re: SCOTUS Gets it Right!
It was a beautiful day for many of my friends, and I share their reflected joy. And just a few days after the decision on Affordable Care Act...which, after a little direct experience, I couldn't help but support. I wish my wife had been with me to share this week. She would have been overjoyed.
