The group's name is MEDIA NOCHE--me on piano, Victor Monterrubio and Mario Alberto Torres on percussion and Ruben Olvera on bass. Really fun live too!

Re: Jazz Videos
Here's a new clip from my Latin jazz experiment, MEDIA NOCHE. It starts with me on timbales but hidden by the djembe player, then I move to the piano. Victor Monterrubio on djembe and timbales, Mario Alberto Torres on congas, Ruben Olvera on bass. The song is CATA by Andrew Hill. I'm happy with my p...

Re: Jazz Videos
One handed technique? It's two-handed playing throughout, you just can't see the right hand very often.

Re: My New High Resolution "BEST OF" Compilation Has Just Been Released!
Due to the overwhelming response here ;) I'm going to announce that the label head told me my first compilation is selling better than most, including some featuring artists I really admire. They are preparing compilation #2 for a release next month. If you want to check out the music, just go to ht...

Just 2 days left to get a 30% discount in any resolution when you download--I'm proud to say that the label told me it's selling at an 'above average' rate.

Re: A Dilemma for Recording Artists
Thanks, Justin--I get it that the end might be next year and not this year. It isn't that encouraging, having personally shopped for a new car recently and witnessed the absence of CD players in several higher-end Fords, Kias and Subarus. I don't remember the public ever saying "Stop making vin...

I love Grado headphones, Ron. Even their lower end products are wonderful.
Ok, so...what format do you find yourself buying these days? LPs? SACDs or regular CDs? High resolution downloads? If the latter, from where?

Re: A Dilemma for Recording Artists
Thanks, jtx--the thing is...when I had a new CD, I could connect with multiple people at a gig who wanted to hear more and they ccould buy a copy right there, stick it in their car on the way home and enjoy it. Downloads are the opposite of immediate gratification when you meet someone in person: &q...

Thanks, JTX! That was clear and informative. if I can ask you one other question--are there online stores where you find yourself checking and/or buying new music more often than others?

Re: Do You Consider Yourself An Audiophile?
Thanks, BeBop! I'm with you on compression--when I have a finished album to be mastered, my instructions to the mastering engineer always begin the same way: "Apply whatever compression is standard, and then cut it in half, and then subtract another 10%." I've never regretted it.

Do You Consider Yourself An Audiophile?
If so, would you mind answering a few questions? I'm getting ready to sign up with an audiophile label and I want to understand their audience a little more. What is your stereo system worth? What do you find yourself buying and playing more often: vinyl, SACDs, high resolution downloads, or somethi...

A Dilemma for Recording Artists
I have more than enough material to go into the studio and record with some talented young friends from Mexico City. I think after I weed through it, this will be the strongest group of songs I've recorded since 1997's Plays Well With Others. But why should I bother? Read on before you judge that co...

My DUOTUNES CD Just Got a Great Review
Only a year after I sent it ;) the San Diego Troubadour reviewed the album I recorded with my dear friend and late guitarist Ken Basman — improvised duets for the most part. I knew it was special, and now I know that at least someone else agrees. DOUG ROBINSON & KEN BASMAN: DuoTunes By Paul Horm...

What's truly insane is that we could now add several other storylines to this. At some point, SOMEONE has to care about this stuff. Right?
