Re: And the site, she is dead.

Scott, thanks for your efforts. I do have to say that if it keeps going, I hope that should you decide to participate that you simply not get into the ego battles you're so famous for again. The last time I remember you talking about closing this down was also because you were fighting with someone....

Re: What Movies Are You Watching? Part 1

"It was extremely weird for us to go to the movies twice in one week--we usually go only a couple times a year. But we did, and they were both Jennifer Lawrence movies."

I think she's been the busiest North American actress in 2013.

Re: What Movies Are You Watching? Part 1

I haven't seen that one, Lenny, but I know that I will. I just watched the episode that revolved around masturbation--what a riot! I know what you mean--I have two friends, both very nice people who don't talk or fart noticeably in the theater, who always say "Let me know when you're going to a...

Re: What Movies Are You Watching? Part 1

Why, stone? I often catch a 1, 2 or 3 pm showing at a multiplex and I'm almost always alone in the theater.

Where is the TV thread? I've started watching Louie and I can't stop!

Re: What Movies Are You Watching? Part 1

Good to hear, Lenny. I go by myself at least once a week, sometimes twice. I've always got a couple of hours to kill in the afternoon, so why not? As you said, you've got the place to yourself.

Re: What Movies Are You Watching? Part 1

Thumbs up for the Secret Life of Walter Mitty. It isn't perfect, but it's great and that's more important. I thought it was a beautiful, smart and interesting "feel good" movie. The photography is magnificent. At the end, I was stunned to see that Ben Stiller had directed it, because it is...

Re: What Movies Are You Watching? Part 1

Thanks--another thing I didn't need to look up! ;) Ok, back to the topic: I saw Don Jon yesterday, written and directed by its star, Joseph Gordon Leavitt I think. You know, it was pretty horrible in spots but always stylishly shot and framed, with moments of inspiration scattered throughout. JGL pl...

Thanks, Rita. The truth is, I do know how to use Google, even here in Mexico. Sometimes it just feels more creative and honest to speak extemporaneously, whether I remember the name or not.

Re: What Movies Are You Watching? Part 1

Just watched a mildly funny, mildly annoying and occasionally laugh out loud flick starring Larry David as a marketing genius who angrily sells his stock back and walks away from his company when his boss, Jon Hamm, decides to name their flagship product (an electric car) "Howard." A week ...

We Three Kings

Happy holidays to everyone here! From my project a while back, with Bob Sheppard on soprano, Dave Carpenter on bass, Peter Erskine on drums and me on piano, playing my arrangement.

Re: What Movies Are You Watching? Part 1

The End or whatever it is called up there--Seth Rogan and a bunch of his comedic contemporaries play themselves as they attend a holiday party thrown by James Franco. Suddenly there is an End Of Days event and it turns into a crisis survival action comedy. The good jokes are excellent--they each pla...

Re: What Movies Are You Watching? Part 1

Agreed about Shaun of the dead and zombieland.

I saw Cormac McCarthy's the counselor. An irredeemable piece of shit, so bad that it's hard to imagine that at any point during the writing, filming or postproduction, anyone involved thought it was worth the trouble.

Re: What Movies Are You Watching? Part 1

Three older flicks-- Being John Malkovich--still brilliant and interesting, though I think it was poorly lit from beginning to end; The Devil's Advocate--for me, this is an almost perfect movie. Pacino is utterly convincing, and everyone else does a fine job--even Keanu Reeves. Some fabulous speeche...

Oh man. I'm struggling with this right now, honestly. I'm heavier than usual, and really craving more of the stuff that got me here.

Snickers
Jelly Beans
Pizza
Shakes
Nuts
Steak--lots and lots of it
Burritos with carne and cheese
Oreos
Mother's Circus Animal Cookies

Re: Enlighten me

It's all true--getting tea-bagged is having someone's balls slamming against your face as you perform oral sex on them; and we've all been making fun of the tea baggers from the moment we heard the name of their association.

Hoy crap--google is turning up the POSTERS from these festivals I attended! I forgot: Canned Heat lead the bill with the Dead and Santana on Mother's Cay; and POCO--my favorites--were on the bill with Chicago.

Amazing times, and all that music for about $4.

Re: What was your first music festival? How was it?

Festivals in Southern CA in the '60s were amazing opportunities for a musical sponge like me. Another one, shortly after the first, was called the Gnurl Festival: Chicago (the week of their first album, so they were basically unknown in my neck of the woods), Country Joe and the Fish, and I think Sa...

"Doug, you left out "McHale's Navy" and "Gilligan's Island.""

I never watched McHale's Navy for some reason. But I did love me Gilligan (actually, some Ginger and Marianne).

And Alfred Hitchcock, Twilight Zone and Outer Limits to be sure.

Lol, steve. Mine was a Love-In on Mother's Day. I was 12 or 13. Santana, Grateful Dead, Lee Michaels, a group called Tarantula. First ever tongue kiss and also first sucking of a nipple when I led the lovely Georgia K, who was completely smashed, over to the San Diego State College music building to...
