How sad to hear. He sure entertained the hell out of me. I'm grateful to have been in the right place and time to witness his comedy.
I hope he left a hell of a note.

Re: I've Just Launched the Ultimate FRANK REHAK website
Gotcha, and yes that would be very cool. I'm going to put up a link to JT when I can get into it. But it's a template that made a techno dweeb like me able to build my own site. I don't know what kind of flexibility there is. I'll ask.

Re: I've Just Launched the Ultimate FRANK REHAK website
As for sharing tracks, we can't just copy the link of the specific track and post it here, like I did two posts up?

Re: I've Just Launched the Ultimate FRANK REHAK website
I practiced his methods to be sure, Ron...but had you ever heard him really play jazz? I hadn't!
As for the player--just whatever is embedded in the site I used from bandzoogle. Is the volume too loud or soft? and why can't you adjust it on your computer? Tell me and I'll seek a solution. Thanks.

Re: I've Just Launched the Ultimate FRANK REHAK website
Thanks, Ron--you will probably get a kick out of hearing the final track (for right now, at least--I've got over a hundred waiting to post) in the audio section: a drum-along CD put together by Jim Chapin back in the '50s, with Clark Terry and Frank. Chapin is playing drums--I'd never heard him, not...

Re: I've Just Launched the Ultimate FRANK REHAK website
Like I said, there are tracks with Frank playing with everyone from Art Blakey to Michel LeGrand, but this one is a sentimental favorite--I was 25, and experimenting with multi-track recording for the first time, and he and I did this JJ Johnson arrangement of "It's Alright with Me." I was...

I've Just Launched the Ultimate FRANK REHAK website
I think! Fellow musicians and music lovers-- I'm Doug Robinson, and jazz trombonist Frank Rehak was my friend and mentor for the last 15 years of his life. Beyond being a stunningly good player who appeared on over 4000 jazz, pop and commercial recordings between 1949 and 1969, Frank Rehak was also ...

Re: Streaming music kills jazz and more......
And these are the legal sites. My mostly successful friends shot a DVD (it was a 5 camera shoot of five separate performances) and created a wonderful concert video. It was to celebrate the 40 year anniversary of the Summer of Love, complete with the music of 1967. I was the musical director and my ...

"I didn't make it through the previous one either, but expected more from this." I'm not sure why, if you didn't make it through the first one. ;) I loved the first one, and this is a great next step in the new series, but only for those who like the franchise. Last night we watched Cirque...

Re: Johnny Winter - RIP
My favorite rock concert experience--1969 or 1970--Johnny Winter And, with Rick Derringer, opening for Poco. Such excellent musicianship up on that stage that night. Rock on, Johnny.

Re: What Movies Are You Watching?
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes-- Mostly terrific--a tad long, heaps of human interest so to speak but never boring. In fact most of the time I was pretty fascinated. If you liked the first one, this is quite different but imo the absolutely perfect way to bring the story forward. Philomena--a near p...

Re: How do you distinguish jazz from rock and funk music?
"That may be over simplistic but most jazz players can play rock if they were motivated to while very few rockers can play jazz." I used to believe this too, but have learned from up close and personal experience that it's really not even close to being true, Clint. I'm certainly not tryin...

I appreciate the invite! Congrats and thanks to Scott for taking the initiative and to Ron and Justin for keeping it rolling. My life has been a bit of a rollercoaster since I split up with Glenda almost 3 years ago. Not my best decision, but I've heard that life goes on and what do you know--it oft...

Re: What Movies Are You Watching? Part 1
I thought Her was a very good movie. More or less original. Godzilla--truly awful. Bryan Cranston does not work for me on the big screen. Neither, apparently, does Godzilla. One or two cool shots but huge holes in the plot, so to speak. XMen--Days of Future Past. Good to very good, though overly lon...

I'm in the middle of Dexter Season 5--the Julia Stiles character is fascinating to me. What a terrific actress. I think that episode 6, Everything is Illumenated, might be one of the best-written hours of tv I've seen in a long time.

Re: What TV shows are you watching?
Cranston might grow on you--that's what happened to me. I just devoured the first season of Orphan Black. What a great show, great premise and an amazing actor in the lead. Wow. A couple of moments seemed a little too 'tv' to me, but other than that--excellent pacing. Sci fi, I suppose, but I don't ...

Re: Jazz Videos
It kind of seems that every time I post a video, we enter a period of no one else posting anything for a few days. I thought I'd bump my thread to see if I can break the streak.
