Good ideas, Ron.

Did this site really make it to 1 year without a single boner thread from thelil?

Re: What TV shows are you watching?

What did you folks think of Louie this season? I thought it was pretty great. The one from last week where he visited the museum was a riot. I also liked the week before where he flashed back to his childhood for pretty much the whole show. I think this season was tighter than the previous. More of ...

Re: Apple music player alternatives

Lenny, between John L's post #16 and yesterday's post by jtx, I think you may have your answers. jtx is Justin, our technical guy who has a rather large music collection, too. If you have further questions, by all means post them. Ron, maybe I'll look into jtx's recommendations later, but, ...

Re: Apple music player alternatives

I'm ready to ditch iTunes if I can find an alternative. I've got like 11,000 tunes, IIRC. I don't know whether it's because of the number of songs chokes iTunes or whatever but now I can't even use the search window. If I want to find a certain album or artist, I type something in and the program fr...

Memorable quotes from posts

I saw Godzilla. While I was pleased with its general suckiness, I found myself wondering why in all the Godzilla movies thru the years, Toho Studios or not, we've never seen a sensitive, realistic monster-on-monster sex scene. I mean really getting it on, like I'm sure giant monsters do in real lif...

Re: The Documentaries Thread

I just finished watching Somm , which Rollie turned me on to, on Netflix. Interesting stuff. It's about this insane group of people who want to attain the highest certification that can be had in the wine industry. It's so rare and difficult that you can pretty much score a new job on the day you pa...

Re: What Movies Are You Watching? Part 1

I've heard that title many times before, but still have no clue what it is... I guess this could be a spoiler since you've managed to steer clear of news on this one, but it's the one set in the future where a dude (Joaquin Phoenix) falls for his operating system (Scar Jo). Silly sounding premise b...

Re: What Movies Are You Watching? Part 1

I watched Her , which I was looking forward to. I think I mentioned earlier that David Edelstein, who I like, said that this was the best film of 2013 by a wide margin. He must've felt an emotional connection to it that was mostly missing for me. I liked it enough to spend a couple of hours with it....

Yes, it was fun while it lasted. But I'm not used to winning. Nobody told me that when they finally win you fully expect them to do the same thing next year or the misery returns.

It's that time of year again, huh? I admire your optimism. Kind of like the lobster in the pot who's super pumped that the water is getting toasty. I can't bring myself to watch the Phillies. I just don't think I can put myself through it. I've sat through so many bad seasons over the years that I t...

Been watching this anime series with my daughter on Crackle. Very nice performances of a bunch of classical warhorses. Also includes a German conductor who's a complete lech. Sounds interesting, walto. I've never checked out any anime, films or otherwise. I've been thinking of having a look.

That I will never to able to do this: You are talking about the maneuver, right? ;) I did power yoga for 4 years, mjb, and I was never in any danger of being able to do that. It kept me in good shape but my gains in flexibility were moderate and I did little in the way of impressive acrobatics. 120...

The Grand Budapest Hotel He sure knows how to make a Wes Anderson film! This one has all of the ingredients: A lot of the usual faces (and a bunch of new ones. A crazy amount of recognizable actors in the mix. They probably worked for $2,000 each) and the familiar editing, tracking shots, narrative...

OTOH, I still think he's a terrific film maker. It's just that people often give him credit for the wrong things. Yeah, walto, I still love many of his films and I would not be surprised if he comes up with something else that I like a lot before he's through. I can't imagine that he'll com...

Blue Jasmine. Ugh. I made it through, but only because there wasn't anything else I could think of to watch instead. Woody's idiosyncrasies make it so that I can't forget for one second that I'm watching a Woody Allen film. It's both the common themes that run through his films and, especially, the ...

Didn't care too much for American Hustle either. So shrill (as was Silver Linings Playbook to these ears) it was hard to listen. Pretty good performances though. Especially Amy Adams. Found Nebraska to be good if a little one dimensional. Thought Upstream Color was a mystery, albeit a w...

Re: What TV shows are you watching?

Tried watching the new version of 'Cosmos' but couldn't hang. Original host Carl Sagan had a way of explaining complex science in a compelling way, I'm not feelin' the new dude! Did you watch episode 2, Chazro? I thought it was better and more accessible than the first one. I haven't checked out th...
