Re: Gerry Hemingway's residency @ the Stone, 7/28–8/2, 2015
my comments on the 7/29 sets and then the 8/2 sets: Ok - been a while since I wrote one of these accounts. Hottest day of the year - 96 degrees in NYC - hottest in 2 years and still blazing hot @ 7:30. Inside the new AC is working wonders. All set middle front row with my wife 5 feet from the drum k...

Re: Tony Malaby's Tamarindo — NYC | 10/24 & 10/25
Belatedly I have to say this was the best I've heard from the trio. Malaby focused and intense. Nasheet Waits as powerful performance on drums as I have ever witnessed. By the end of the second set, I was speechless. Like Elvin Jones cubed or squared. Beyond possible An aside - at a recent trio show...

Tony Malaby's Tamarindo — NYC | 10/24 & 10/25
2 sets each night @ Cornelia Street Cafe
With Malaby on tenor and soprano saxophones, Michael Formanek on bass and Nasheet Waits on drums.
I'll be there on the 25th
Will be exciting to hear Formanek in place of William Parker who is the regular bassist in this wonderful trio.

Re: Upcoming Gigs for ECM Recording Artists
Thanks, Rita The "plan" is to try for the 10/1 These Arches shows and 100% for the 10/4 shows specifically to see the three drummers set - something I've never seen listed. Plus it is three of the most mighty drummers in the world of jazz/improvised music. Only possibility to miss the Satu...

Re: The Prog Thread
I won't spoil it for anyone as I would think the band will not vary that much but there are 3 or 4 huge surprises - compositions that have not been played for 40 years and and 2 or 3 that have never been played live. One being the great tune "One More Red Nightmare" So I spoiled just a li...

Re: The Prog Thread
Thanks for the write up, Jason I'm a huge fan of the early Crimson up through and especially the 73-74 band. I even sprung for the 20 CD box Road to Red last December. I didn't go due to the three drummers but I wish I did based on your comments that they played a good amount of the material I love....

Re: Jazz in NYC
I also saw you considered Ches Smith's These Arches on the 1st. If I can swing it, I'll be there with bells on as this band includes some of the best improvisors/musicians and bandleaders working today with Tony Malaby, Tim Berne, Mary Halvorsen and Andrea Parkins. Plus if you like up close and pers...

Re: NYC Shows September
I've seen Mintz once and he was very good. I think he will be the right guy for this band. The first time this new quintet played back in the spring, Gerald Cleaver was at the drum kit, and he was a bit too understated that night, IMO. The band as a whole was very very good. Very very unpredictable ...

Re: Steve Lehman Octet - Mise en Abime (2014)
I would love to go tomorrow night for the duo with Marilyn Crispell and then a trio with Mark Helias and the great pianist. Alas, job and my life preclude me from making it.
Very happy to have attended two great shows the last 2 Fridays
Looking forward to Tyshawn in September with Evan Parker

Embedded tune sounds great.
I think I've been missing out. I'm going to make sure I get these 2 CDs and more importantly make sure I go see the band when they play in NYC.
Fwiw any band with Tyshawn Sorey is worth seeing live
