Can't remember about Ron, but I think he's younger than I am. Val's got me by one year.

Re: What was your most memorable jazz vocal performance?

I go back to the first one that knocked me out. It was after the Newport Jazz Festival in 1958, a Newport All-Stars package, including Thelonious Monk and Lennie Tristano. The singer was Anita O'Day and she blew my mind. There have been many since but that first 'live' experience was one I'll never ...

Re: Jazz in San Francisco

Bassist Don Prell leads a band the first Friday of every month at Bird & Beckett. I just discovered his great playing on a Claude Williamson trio side from the '50s. He went on to be bassist with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra. http://www.birdbeckett.com/don-prells-seabop-ensemble-1st-fri...

Enrico Pieranunzi

Right now Diana Krall is singing (broadcast on SiriusXM on Ch. 67 live) accompanied by Marc Ribot among others. She did a wonderful Neil Young medley (A Man Needs A Maid/Heart of Gold) followed by Fats Waller. Just her piano on the Waller.

Re: Which jazz musician do you listen to the most frequently

Hard to say. As far as listening to full albums, so far this morning I've listened to Cedar Walton Plays, Ron Carter Stardust, and it's only 8 A.M. Late last night I listened to early Betty Carter Round Midnight... :)
