Re: Treme - The Final Episodes
I love Treme. It's one of my favorite shows of all time. Unfortunately, I don't have HBO right now. Am hoping to binge watch these final show when I visit a buddy in DC 12/29---the night of the finale (she's also a fan). It is probably is the only show on tv that shows working musicians with some ac...

Re: Songs for Drunks, Losers, and Other Assorted Insomniacs
LOL!! Now, the Camptown Races gut actually wins on the bay, but that would kind of rub it in. When I applied for my retail job, they asked if I'd be able to handle irate customers. I told 'em I could deal with drunks (part of my experience as a lounge singer). They seemed to think that was a unique ...

Re: Songs for Drunks, Losers, and Other Assorted Insomniacs
I *love* drunks, losers, insomniacs, junkies and even guys who request Stephen Foster. I'd sing "Camptown Races" (in honor of those who lose at the OTB).

Thelil: it is my dream. I love the "complex" emotions of dark songs. I'd love to get paid to be a skeptical curmudgeon and hopeless romantic wreck!

Re: Songs for Drunks, Losers, and Other Assorted Insomniacs
Definitely would do Waits. "Bad Liver and a Broken Heart" comes to mind.
"Lush Life" would be my theme.
Why do I want to do this? Yes, a kind of catharsis I guess. Sick of moon, June, spoon, swoon. Want to express the dark side.

Songs for Drunks, Losers, and Other Assorted Insomniacs
My dream job is playing in a Las Vegas dive piano bar from 2--5 AM. I want to sing noire songs about carrying torches, or longing, loss, cocktails, cigarettes and angst in the wee small hours. What songs should I play? Certsinly "One for My Baby....

Re: Sports did you used to follow that you hardly do now.
I used to be very heavily into baseball. Watched the Red Sox like it was a religion. Now I follow it via news , but rarely watch regular season games.
I also used to watch a lot of football, but just can't get into it anymore.

Re: Can you drive a manual transmission?
Yes it was!!!
My standard transmission car was a 1990 Nissan Stanza. I loved that car!! Too bad I put it in a ditch during an ice storm and totalled it. I LOVED THAT CAR, man.

Re: Can you drive a manual transmission?
I really miss manual transmission! Learned to drive manual in a Chevy Malibu station wagon in Ithaca (famously hilly). It was the first car James and I bought as a couple.

My all time favorite theme is Nelson Riddle's theme from "Emergency" closely followed by the Bob Newhart theme and the theme from "Taxi".

Steely Dan
Steely Dan deserves their own thread, IMO.
Going to hear 'em 7/20
SD is my favorite band. I like to say they're "better than jazz" (makes the figs sputter).
Any Major Dude will tell you.

Re: Smoking
I hate to say this, but if cigs were outright "outlawed", we'd likely get 'em at least "on par" ....
Re: Smoking
Tippy: I missed you! ((hug!!)).
Re: Smoking
Don't "hate" chewers. Hate the spit;even discreetly into a container.
I enjoy smoke. I like cigarettes, cigars;pipes. I only did snuff in me youth. Made you sneeze. Sneezing is general tberepeutic, IMO.

Re: Smoking
I take that back: chewing's gross, IMO. I have relatives/friends who chew. I enjoy cigarettes, cigars, abd pipes.
