Re: Duduka da Fonseca, New Samba Directions
my favorite track at the moment is Ceu E Mar, written by one of the architects of Bossa Nova, pianist Johnny Alf. He was responsible for using advanced harmonies in his songs in the late 1950s. Jobim and others picked up on this.

Re: Big Bands
Ali Ryerson has put together a big band made up entirely of flutes and rhythm section. From what I hear on this clip, they sound pretty good. The CD just came out. I think I'm going to get it.

Re: Joe Carter Samba Rio Trio
Everything went well: the rain that was threatening held off so we were able to play outdoors, a few friends sat in, the Brazilian food was fantastic and they reached their $2500 goal they had set for the evening. I was happy to take part in the small way that I did.

Hi David, yes this is a wonderful group. Ze was on my last CD, Poet of the Pandeiro is an apt title for him. And Jason is a wonderful 7 string player. I look forward to any recording they make. Ok, now I have to go practice.

David, thanks for posting this review. I also love choro. I find it very hard to play but enjoy listening to it. I'm putting this CD on my "to get" list.

Wave is a tough one for singers because of the wide range but, you're right Bebop, a great one to blow on. Some musicians look at it as a blues form with a bridge.

Nice one, John. I guess you have to be a certain age to get that one. And I guess I qualify.

Re: What's your favorite Joe Bim song?
the Elis e Tom version of Aguas de Marco is definitely a classic. There's been an ongoing debate about whether the laughing and good humor on the recording was spontaneous or planned out beforehand. Elis had said she didn't want to record with Jobim, it was her record company that insisted. Either w...

Re: What's your favorite Joe Bim song?
It's interesting that we're mentioning Gal Costa when we think of Jobim's music. I always thought of her as one of the best interpreters of his music. I know Jobim thought so. One of my favorite DVDs and CDs is Gal's Canta Tom Jobim.

What's your favorite Joe Bim song?
I'm curious, what's your favorite song by A.C. Jobim? I'm sometime surprised by people who request his songs. The casual listener seems to sometimes know and like the more obscure Jobim gem. For me, I think it's still Dindi, "Ahhh ... Din - di ..." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zY_0a9DUhI...

Hi Ron & Jazz Talk community: It's great to be here on Jazz Talk. Currently I continue to mix it up as far as settings and musicians I perform with (something I learned from Lee Konitz) but when all the stars line up and schedules coincide, the main performing group is myself plus Leco Reis on b...
