Re: Any of you guys hear of this?

Hi guys--I only have a minute. (I signed into the the local library internet to do this, since I lost my internet thingy when it turned out somebody else really owns my house, and they only give you 20 minutes to surf here.) Anyhow, I'm hoping the medical insurance is as good as it soun...

Re: Cameras & Photography

I'm really having fun playing with my new 55mm macro (closeup) lens. It's amazing for its crispness and beautiful color rendition. Here are a couple of very different shots taken moments apart in the same locale, my son's backyard. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7299/12311834963_d526ffbcbe_c.jpg Germ...

Thanks, Coda.

Yes, I used fill flash on the shot of Sophie. There was too much motion in that low light setting, otherwise. I'm really pleased with how natural everything, including skin tones, is captured.

Here's a snapshot of a primary reason for coming to California, to celebrate the 4th birthday of our granddaughter, Sophie. This was taken at a pizza party as she deftly plucks a slice of black olive for her 1st bite.

Fascinating photo, too; do you happen to know what kind of succulent that is? Yes, Senecio Mandraliscae, one of my very favorite succulents. It's a native of South Africa and very drought tolerant. Darren (my son) planted a very small patch of them several years ago which have now spread to about 1...

It was bittersweet to start this thread, but I'm glad to honor Pete's significant contributions to music and the world at large.

Yes, I was aware that Malvina Reynolds wrote Little Boxes.

Re: Pete Seeger Dies at 94

I was introduced to Pete Seeger by my college roommate, Alex, who had met him at a concert appearance on the east coast before coming to Alaska. This is the 1st wonderful song I heard featuring Pete. My wife & I still sing this at times, especially the final lines of certain verses. http://www.y...

Those are very salient points raised by David Byrne, and come as no surprise. Commercial radio in America is (mostly) a joke ... a bad joke, at that.

The link does not offer a petition yet. I'll sign it when I can.

Now that we're in California again, visiting our sons and families, I'm anxious to try out a couple of "new" old lenses I got for Christmas. For camera enthusiasts, I got a Hexanon 55mm f3.5 macro and a Hexanon 35-70mm f3.5 lens. Both lenses were designed and made in Japan in the 70s for u...

Re: Tennis anyone?

I'm happy that Stanislas Wawrinka finally won his 1st Grand Slam title, but sad that the final was marred by Rafael Nadal's back injury and how that changed the match dynamics. Through the pain, even the mindless mid-match booing, Rafa showed his usual grit and determination. In defeat, he displayed...
