Re: What TV shows are you watching?
Well, I finally made myself watch the rest of House Of Cards first season. Ended well enough, I suppose. I've watched the 1st 5 episodes and....I'm not sure how I feel. I mean, on paper it sounds fantastic; a murdering sociopath Vice President who's endgame is to be the most powerful person on the ...

Beatles Tribute
I forgot this was on! So 1st I watched the Game Of Thrones preview at 8:45 (looks fantastic!). Than I watched snippets during the commercial breaks on The Walking Dead. The music that I did manage to see didn't impress, although it was fun to see Steve Lukather playin' gtr with the house band, I'm a...

Re: What are you reading?
Coincidentally, I just read 11/23/63 last month. I also thought it was very good. As I was 10 yrs old back than all his remembrances of the era really resonated (he basically feels it was a better time to exist, I'd agree!). His thoughts of our alternate future were intense, scary, and fun! I think ...

Re: What TV shows are you watching?
Thought it was OK. Almost feels like serial killing is becoming the flavor of the month. I'll have to see if I enjoy this one as much as I did 'The Bridge'. Agree that it's always fun to see old friends from favorite shows gone by in new roles (The medical examiner worked in 'Treme' along with Peter...

Re: What Movies Are You Watching? Part 1
Lone Survivor - I had the same reaction to the movie as I had when I read the book; heartbreak and pride. This man next to me brought a young boy (son?) and the kid was crying when the end credits rolled, he wasn't the only one. One of the best war movies ever made.

Re: What TV shows are you watching?
The 1st season of Orange Is The New Black on Netflix, our first viewing of their "new" programming of this nature. We're enjoying it thus far, with dips here and there. Their production values are certainly not in question. Wazzup Ron! I guess this means you haven't seen the Netflix versi...

Re: Dave Valentin Tribute & Benefit Concert This Thursday
As I mentioned before, I've always been aware of the realities that Jazz musicians (and many artists of ANY type) live through. This surely isn't the 1st hardship story I've read about BUT....this story just seems to have stuck a nerve with me. It really makes me so sad. LATIN JAZZ STALWART STRUGGLE...

Just so's you don't think I'm a complete animal (!;), last night I saw 'Searching For Sugar Man', the documentary about Sixto Rodriguez, it was very good. Hard to believe this man's story but, incredibly enough, it happened. Highly recommended on this site due to it's link to music and the industry.

Re: What Movies Are You Watching? Part 1
Wolf Of Wall Street - What can I say, I really enjoyed this flick! Language is filthy, the behavior depicted, complete debauchery, over the top drugs, sex, and rock and Wall Street. It's been a few decades so I guess it's OK to admit that except for the Wall Street money, I was totally into this 'sc...

Re: What Movies Are You Watching? Part 1
Went by myself yesterday to see American Hustle. Didn't meet my expectations, some of the reviews I read actually were comparing it to The Sting, not even close! When it ended I was like; "that's it??". The actresses were nice eye candy but I don't know, I was expecting something smarter. ...

Re: What TV shows are you watching?
Orphan Black Any you guys seen this? Manoman, just went thru the 10 episode season this past week on demand. Outstanding! Another superior show from BBCAmerica. Great Story-telling, very addictive but the story behind this is the amazing lead actress, the relatively unknown rookie Tatiana Maslany, w...

Re: What Movies Are You Watching? Part 1
I've actively avoided all things zombie since this bullshit began. It's really annoying. Tellyawhat, I felt the exact same way (still do when it comes to teen vampires, tv superheroes, and the latest 'modern' takes on fairytales, yuck!) BUT....my son had been pestering me literally for years about ...

Re: Treme - The Final Episodes
1st episode we got John Boutte (one of my favorite singers, never would've heard him if not for the show!), Michael Doucet & BeauSoleil, Trombone Shorty, & Ellis Marsalis! Such a treat! That said, the show set the bar SO high the 1st season with John Goodman it's never quite been able to ach...

Treme - The Final Episodes
Treme's coming back tonight at 9 on HBO! Kinda bittersweet as this will be the final season. Produced by the same team that gave us The Wire. On top of being a great show, and the reason it should especially resonate with us here on Jazztalk, the music! Don't think there's EVER been a show where the...

@John L - thx buddy! Exactly the type of info I was hoping for. I briefly went looking and like in all things electronic, the variety and costs are all over the place! While I've heard endless tales of iTunes suckage, I've never had a glitch, go figure! I've never done cloud sharing or even a podcast but I haven't a clue whether that means anything. It certainly shouldn't, right? I do have a problem that, being computer illiterate, maybe one of you guys can sugges...

Re: Apple music player alternatives
I'd say 90+% of the 3300 songs on my pod are from my CD/LP collection. I very rarely download complete recordings (I cherry-pick my favorite tunes). For a longtime 'compilations' recorder like myself my pod is my ultimate 'greatest hits compilation'! Set on shuffle songs/no repeat, it's become my fa...
