Re: Food For Thought

Jimmy, I always think of you when Patti & I have pizza at Moose's Tooth Pizzeria & Pub . Today, we had a nice pie, salad, iced tea and one of their signature micro brews. I had my new camera along, so captured a couple of shots. http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3676/10602739963_be8afaa015_...

Re: Cameras & Photography

Thanks, Scott. And, because the Olympus E-PL1 allows interchangeable lenses, I can use any primary lens made for an SLR, too. I have 3 adapters on the way ... to accept Olympus, Konica and Exakta 35mm lenses. And, because the image stabilization system is housed in the body of my camera, those lense...

Re: Cameras & Photography

My new camera has arrived, and I got my 1st chance to take a few shots with it yesterday afternoon. These are mostly snapshot-like photos, but will give you an idea of what wonderful color rendition and crisp images it can produce. There is a luminous quality that I can't adequately describe but cer...

Re: Cameras & Photography

My new camera arrived on Saturday, and I've been getting acquainted with it ever since. There is a learning curve, but I hope to share some photos with you before we head to Hawaii next week. It's beautiful, and will keep me happy for quite a while, I'm certain. Our weather has sucked since it arriv...

Re: Corea or Hancock?

I'm not a fan of everything recorded with Jarrett's trio, but certainly like a lot of it. I may start another thread on piano trios, because I have another favorite to share and discuss ... Enrico Pieranunzi. Our friend "Sand" (aka Helge Sandvik) turned me on to him a decade or so ago, and...

He was an "original", unpretentious, unapologetic and honest singer/songwriter. Lou will be sorely missed by his legions of fans. http://i1.nyt.com/images/misc/nytlogo379x64.gif Lou Reed, 1942-2013 Outsider Whose Dark, Lyrical Vision Helped Shape Rock ’n’ Roll http://graphics8.nytimes.com...

Man, I've been enjoying Smalls live feed tonight, and hearing a fantastic drummer for the 1st time, Jimmy Wormworth! The Tardo Hammer Trio just finished a fine couple of sets.

Re: Cameras & Photography

Brooks, this particular camera has particularly nice characteristics, especially for the price. It's no longer produced, having been replaced by newer incarnations, so I got a terrific buy. I've seen lots of output from my son's E-PL1, and it's amazing! He still uses it despite also having a state-o...

Re: Cameras & Photography

I'm very excited and happy to announce my purchase of a new camera, an early birthday gift to myself. I bought a wonderful little micro 4/3 Olympus E-PL1 today, and ordered its electronic viewfinder to mount on the hot shoe. For now, I'm keeping it simple with a factory "kit" 14-4...

Re: MLB 2013

Very few people, including me, could have predicted the outcome of game 6 in the NLCS. The Dodgers imploded, Kershaw sank, Mattingly didn't manage his pitching staff, and the Cardinals hit and ran like there was no tomorrow. Well, there isn't for the Dodgers, despite their exciting 2013 season. Cong...

No argument there, Scott. I was simply pointing out my preference for Bo as a football player, that's all. His skill sets were more in tune with that sport, in my estimation.

Re: MLB 2013

You obviously never saw Bo Jackson or Joey Gathright play. Not saying Puig is slow, but I have serious doubts he's as fast as either of them. (in their primes, of course) Bo Jackson was very fast, but as a baseball player, I thought he was a better football player. I never saw Gathright play, so ca...

Thanks for that heads up, Steve. Sure wish I was traveling in the region and could take advantage of what will be shared by this remarkable trio.

Our friend Helge Sandvik (Sand) might be in attendance. I'll send him this information in case he's unaware of the event.

Re: Original, Custom, or Interesting instruments

Saxophonist Eddie Harris constantly pushed the limits, and was responsible for several innovations and inventions including the reed trumpet. He worked out a system of utilizing a saxophone mouthpiece in a trumpet. This was one of many such innovations.
