Re: The SmallsLIVE Foundation Newsletter
Good news from Smalls but still hanging by a thread. Do what you can. Dear Friends - Unprecedented times! From the comatose sleep of the city sequestered during the pandemic to the explosive rage of the people taking to the streets. New York has been turned around. Once high rent neighborhoods are n...

Re: McCoy Tyner — R.I.P.
I remember Ron Thorne telling me that the opening theme to his jazz radio program was Tyner's Blues On the Corner from The Real McCoy. I think of him every time I hear it. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64lWx44RjdU One of my faves was Fly With the Wind. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZIXDTH-sLA

Re: Improve JT? Sound off!
I have thought the same thing about “liking”, always thought it was too much like Facebook and forgot about it. But, I’ve come around to thinking that it’s a good idea. That is, if it’s not a monumental headache to implement. Just my personal experience but there have been numerous times that I’ve w...

Ron was such a good man and a good friend. And this site is so well done and such a wonderful resource. Many thanks to Ron and Justin and anyone else who played a role in keeping it going. I admit to being a bit scarce around here but it's not because I didn't appreciate it. I do. It's always gratif...

Maria Schneider Orchestra in Durango, CO
The Maria Schneider Orchestra played The Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College, Durango CO Feb 25. There were so many jazz luminaries that it was hard to concentrate. The hall has about a 600 seat capacity and I'm guessing that maybe 100 seats were filled. Embarrassing to be sure but this is ...

Baby It's Cold Outside "Rewrite"
My daughters began objecting to Frank Loesser's lyrics years ago. "Why doesn't that jerk just leave her alone?!", they'd say. I have to agree, the song is a bit of a creep out. A Minneapolis couple decided to do something about it..... http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/baby-its-cold-outs...

Nice Ron. Thanks for posting this. We were lucky enough to hear him several times, here in Colorado and in LA. I remember seeing him at The Lighthouse in Hermosa Beach in the mid 70s. He really had the place cooking. Hate to see him go.

Bacharach lyric - Wives and Lovers
I like most all of Burt's songs but I heard this on the radio the other night and it struck me that vocalists, particularly female vocalists, might have a problem with these lyrics in 2015. Kind of gave me the creeps. Any thoughts? Wives And Lovers Burt Bacharach Hey, little girl Comb your hair, fix...

Re: Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga - Cheek to Cheek
I just saw, and read, Mark's excellent review and couldn't agree more. Lady Gaga has more baggage than a traveling circus but even at her young age, she's also paid some real dues. She explained in an interview that she was at a low point in her life, nearing depression, when she was approached by T...
