Re: Clues
For drivers: GET OFF MY ASS. IT WILL NOT END WELL ONE OF THESE DAYS. Also, if you can obviously see ahead that a car is in the middle lane going 5 mph over the limit, and you, for whatever fuck reason, need to go 15 over, DO NOT WAIT UNTIL YOU ARE 2 FEET FROM THE GOOD DRIVER TO PASS. That too WILL N...

Re: What Movies Are You Watching?
Finally saw Wolf of Wall Street . I went into it with tempered expectations from scanning critical reviews. Once again I learn it pays to ignore them. I thought it was a very amusing take on both hucksterism and hedonism. I believe that most people are alienated from that world to the point that wat...

Re: What TV Shows Are You Watching?
I enjoyed The Shield , but it is certainly no Wire . The deluge of television shows is amazing. A mixed bag for me of shows I must see, shows I watch but wouldn't be bothered if I didn't, and then the ones I watch that I know are bad and I suppose are "guilty pleasures" (more like embarras...

Re: What Movies Are You Watching? Part 1
American Hustle Talk about a mixed bag. It wasn't bad overall, just lumpy. First, if Russell meant to mimic Scorcese sans violence, he was successful. Not sure why he would, but whatever. Christian Bale was great. Jennifer Lawrence was miscast, appearing like a teenager dressing up as an adult. Amy...

Jeff - I started watching it on youtube (someone posted complete episodes). If you haven't seen the American version, it is a treat, albeit dark, in more ways than one. The US version is an exact replica almost note for note. Being a fan of most things Danish, I would recommend it, but if you have a...

Just watched the pilot of a French show on Netflix streaming called Spiral (Engranages in French). Very good!
There are 4 seasons. Check it out.

Have you watched Justified at all? It's no Deadwood but I like it a lot. Timothy Olyphant's character is *just a bit* like his character in Deadwood. He's sticking to what he's good at. I do watch Justified, and enjoy it. I especially like Walton Goggins, and a few of the other characters from earl...

Re: What TV shows are you watching?
I thought the Breaking Bad finale was great. That show ended on a high, and leading up to it was all peak material. True Detective was great too. Lenny - I would say after three in to Sons, if you don't like it, I doubt you will. For me it is a show I can take or leave. A bit formulaic. Hannibal is ...

Lately its been Paul Bley (surprise), Miles, and Cecil Taylor's FMP cds, which are really astounding when heard repeatedly.

My workouts have increased in duration and intensity since September. That's the good news.
Bad news is for the past 8 weeks or so I have been eating much more, far and above the extra calories expended working out.

Re: What Movies Are You Watching? Part 1
Watched Fellini's 8 1/2 again, and enjoyed it more than when I first viewed it ages ago. Actually I watched it twice, if you count the commentary version. This is the type of film that can be enjoyed purely from a visual perspective, sound off, not knowing nor caring wtf is going on. But quite a lot...

I'm loving season two of House of Cards. By the way, in the British original...SPOILER ALERT... ...she is tossed off the roof of a building by the same character. So whether you liked the subway station plot line, or not, it is true to the original, which was a great series. One of the all time witt...

I liked A Late Quartet too. Added bonus is if you actually like the music, it also has that going for it. After not liking Fassbinder's The Marriage of Maria Braun I was encouraged to check out Ali: Fear Eats the Soul . Glad I did. Superb. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wcddaBxyqgw/UEM2SmfNzrI/AAAAAAAAFC...

Blue Jasmine - clever idea, very well executed. Andrew Dice Clay is fantastic. Blanchet is just amazing, especially the fleeting looks she flashes which convey her inner hysteria/mania/lunacy better than the dialogue. Fans of Bobby Cannavale will enjoy his Stanley Kowalski, especially the grocery s...

Walto - Yeah I believe that in every way. I just had a moment where my VI year old temper cursed out the desk leg. Then my LV frontal lobe talked it down. My favorite expression, used most recently during a 2 1/2 hour root canal, is "there are far worse things". Seriously, though, regardin...

Liking this Roman numeral thing.
I'm LV and I can't believe it. Don't feel LV, however one should feel at LV. I feel XXXV, maybe XL tops.
Wait, XL doesn't seem right.

Been wanting to check out Fassbinder for a while, so I finally rented The Marriage of Maria Braun.
I didn't like it too much. It was original though, I'll give it that. Not awful, just didn't grab me.
