Re: Favorite TV Show Theme Music

The Game of Thrones opening credit score

The version of 'Handbags and Gladrags' in the opening/closing credits of the The Office(UK).

Sometimes, the theme music isn't something I'd like on its own but is perfect for the show.

No. My dad actually tried to teach me on a stick shift first, but I never got the hang of it.

Re: What Movies Are You Watching? Part 1

Moore is indeed a gorgeous woman.

I do agree that her Boston accent in 30 Rock was not her brightest moment, but everyone is allowed a misstep or two.

Yesterday, I discovered ful medames - an Egyptian stewed fava bean breakfast - and I loved it.

Re: What Movies Are You Watching? Part 1

Speaking of which, even though I'm an old school Stephen King fan and usually adverse to remakes, I have to admit the trailer for the new Carrie actually looks very intriguing. I just saw the commercial this weekend. I don't know. Ms Moretz is talented, but she seems too pretty for the title role. ...

Re: What TV shows are you watching?

BTW, totally satisfied with how Breaking Bad ended. Gilligan really fucked with our heads concerning our feelings about Walter to the very end. Ambivilence... Brilliant stuff. Agreed. Some folks were expecting a more EPIC ending, but I think Gilligan got it just right. For all his moral and physica...

Re: What TV shows are you watching?

My 14-year old has been watching Parks and Recreation in marathon manner. The show really disturbs me. It's sooo freaking derivative. First, and most obviously it's just a remake of "The Office" with Pohler playing Michael Scott. I suspect you've only seen the first season, which ...

There's one thing I would have liked to see added, but aside from that I agree. The perfect way to end an amazing series and a sublime half-season.

Re: What TV shows are you watching?

I enjoyed the Agents of SHIELD pilot. We'll see if subsequent episodes manage to keep up the pace and also improve the issues with some of the characters. The young pretty actors in the ensemble were not too bad, but Clark Gregg in the lead was really good.

Re: What are you reading?

Now I'm reading a compilation of Philip K Dick short stories and enjoying them. I think I'd like to read a novel of his, to see how he extends his ideas. Where should I start? 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?', which is what the film Blade Runner is based on. Plenty of other good ones, but tha...

Re: What TV shows are you watching?

So last nights series finale (after 8 yrs!) of Dexter was lousy, I mean textbook lousy! Oh, that was bad! Maybe Dexter can come out of retirement to kill the head writer. I've never seen a single episode of Dexter. I hear that it follows the standard Showtime model of diminishing returns and overst...

Re: What TV shows are you watching?

Anybody watch Adultswim shows? I'm a fan of Childrens Hospital and NTSF:SD:SUV. These shows tend to be uneven practically by design, but when they're good they're a solid 11 minutes of fun. Certainly not for everybody, but I dig'em.

Finished recently: Eric Ries - The Lean Startup This was for work, but it was quite good. Ries presents a very rational and practical approach, and he or his ghost writer writes clearly and eloquently. Junot Diaz - The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao That one just floored me. It's the first Diaz I'...

Re: What TV shows are you watching?

I watched the pilot of Brooklyn Nine Nine last night because I love Andre Braugher. It was just as bad as I feared it would be. He deserves much better than to be paired with Andy Samberg. I quite enjoyed it. It wasn't perfect, but it gave me the feeling it has a lot of promise. A big part of that ...

Re: What TV shows are you watching?

Season 1 of The Newsroom left me enervated even though I found myself agreeing with every sentiment. I still watch it, but I'm not totally into it. Daniels, Mortimer are fine and Waterston is always a pleasure, but Sorkin's dialogue requires a certain level of commitment that most of the young acto...

Re: What TV shows are you watching?

Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip on DVD (obviously) It started out really strong, but it got really sloppy by the end. I think the last few episodes were re-edited to resemble a series finale. But it definitely had potential. One of the things that bugged about it were the show-within-the-show comedy ...
