Stan Tracey has died

I saw him many times in the 60s at Ronnie Scott's and a few years ago at the Toronto Jazz Festival.

Another wonderful musician gone.

I feel the same way but two good takes on it are Zombieland and Shaun Of The Dead.

Re: What Movies Are You Watching? Part 1

We watched Cloud Atlas a few nights ago. I thought Halle Barry's performance(s) was/were almost as stultifying as Sandra Bullock's in Gravity. I must admit, Ms. Berry's talents are lost on me. The film was admirable for a number of reasons, mostly logistical. Unfortunately, it left me unmoved, somew...

Re: I Hate People

My daughter and I stopped in at Sud Forno on Queen Street West yesterday morning. It is a delightful bakery café type place from the owners of Terroni. In their upstairs they have a large communal table and we went there. One person was there apart from us. He had a laptop in front of him as well as...

... Tellyawhat, the lead actor; brit Chiwetel Ejiofor, is having a star-making banner year. Have you seen The Shadow Line? It is fine dark stuff. The cast includes Rafe Spall (one of my tips for the top), Christopher Ecclestone and Stephen Rea. Hugo Blick is the writer / director. Pretty much anyth...

Walt,

How is Lucy Punch in this. I've not seen her in anything that suggests she has much, if any, talent.

PS _ I rather liked "Whatever Works."

Gravity. ... The acting is good, ..." Doug, my dear fellow ... were you high? Don't get me wrong - I thought it a visual and auditory treat - but to my ears and mind, the acting was pitiful, as was most of the script. I'm guessing at least one of the cringe lines was spouted after the quite in...

We went to see Gravity. IMAX 3D.

Stunning to look at and listen to, except for the words.

I am told that Ms. Bullock's performance is getting decent reviews. If so, just add it to the list of items I don't understand. Awful, awful, awful etc.

Funny stuff. I can kind of get where everyone is coming from when it comes to the use of the word. You can't just bury it and pretend it doesn't exist and I guess some think you can emasculate it by using it more but it still makes me cringe, especially back when Pulp Fiction came out and QT used i...
