Re: Happy Father's Day!

Thanks, Valerie. I just got off the phone with Justin who called to wish me a Happy Father's Day. For the 1st time, I got to wish him one. Kai is one month old today. I spoke with our other son, Darren, this morning, and our daughter Terri, last night. It was a relaxing day, watching baseball o...

Re: What are our obligations to Iraq?

What a mess! An already complex, smoldering region just entered a new phase which may see (even further) splintering of the country we poured so many people and dollars into. With Iran entering the picture, it will only get more bizarre. I can't think of a way in which the U.S. can constructively as...

Happy Father's Day!

All three of my children are in California now, but I've spoken with each of them, which helps close the distance. Patti's 94 year-old Father returns from a trip tonight, so she will get to greet him at the airport. Happy Father's Day to all Fathers who see this thread. http://www.youtu...

I'm hip to that, bluenoter. I'm also hip to the fact that if Jim was alive, Mal would be too. Jim passed in 1992, Mal in 2002, a decade later. Both were sad, major losses.

Re: Jazzfestival Saalfelden (Austria) | August 28–31, 2014

Wow, that looks like quite a fine festival. If Jim Pepper was alive he would likely be involved, with Mal Waldron or a rhythm section of his own. He spent quite a bit of time performing and recording in Austria prior to his death.

Thanks, Valerie. We agree, of course.

Here's one of my favorite photos from our recent trip to California, a really tender moment showing our 9½ year-old grandson, Reed, holding and admiring his new cousin, Kai.
